That’s bad. What if your family didn’t have any money? It’s not a good system.
Granted, the travel insurer should pay for return travel, but if I recall they tell you to pay yourself and then reimburse you…
It’s just scary to think about, really.

The CAA have been quite poor. I escalated my case to them in July and they have done nothing. I don’t understand how regulatory bodies works in the air industry but it feels as though consumers are left to fight for themselves.
As far as passengers stranded I guess travel insurance would have to cover it, but if they were like me (with a pretty patchy medical history) they wouldn’t have been able to afford a policy that covers this type of situation. It would have cost me around £1000 to get a “standard” travel insurance policy for North America.
This is what really annoys… a basic insurance policy shouldn’t be that expensive when it’s covering industry type problems like cancellations, delays, lost luggage etc. That has nothing to do with you and your personal situation ![]()
In some ways I understand however as I had cancer I can appreciate that statistically i’m more likely to make a claim. The policy i ended up was still expensive but nothing compared to potential medical fees i’d face in North America if i’d gotten ill.
I guess its one of those injustices we have to accept for now. Insurance isn’t the only industry that is fundamentally flawed.
