CASS Payment Redirection?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to switch one of my current accounts to Monzo using the CASS service and I was wondering what would happen if someone tried to send a payment to my old bank account. I know the payment would be redirected into my Monzo account but will their bank be notified of my new account details or will I have to provide the details manually of my Monzo account so the other person can update the payee details?

As far as I’m aware, you’ll have to provide your Monzo bank details manually.

What should happen is all of your payees with major banks (basically not the new digital ones) will have your payee details updated to your Monzo account details. For cases where it doesn’t happen, the next time they make a payment the bank will redirect it and provide the account details again at this point.

Some banks will also inform you if they have failed to update your payee info - for example in situations where you have an old payee and the account is closed. It works very well.

This should be taken care of with the BACS AWACS (Advice of Wrong Account for Automated Credits Service) report to the bank (for direct credits, which includes Standing Orders), and BACS ADDACS (Automated Direct Debit Amendment and Cancellation Service) for DDs.

Additionally, I had a DD collected from the old “closed” account when I switched with CASS (just because the timing of the payment was so close to the switch date) and it was redirected and withdrawn from the correct account.
