Cashback is coming to more customers šŸš€

Only on debit card transactions conducted after signing up to the promotion, and having an issue at the moment with some missing cashback from November, which is making me think twice about messing with Barclays for spend in December. I should find out definitively by 5/6 December, I think. Customer Service chat is useless.

I have a Halifax Rewards Account - far more offers (41 currently) with bigger discounts on there. That said I would only use one - Sainsbury’s 8%. Not only that you have to ā€˜activate’ them and that is just plain silly, you should have them available or not bother.

I’ll be buying my Xmas booze at Adsa (5%) on my Mozo card tomorrow, always assuming such a purchase qualifies.

Can be useful to choose when to activate especially for single use. For the retailer they won’t want people to be getting cash back for normal spending rather it’s to encourage additional spending there.

True, but why give an option for multi-use cashback offers?

Can there ever be a scenario where you don’t want to activate an offer that works for multiple uses?

As a customer you probably want to always enable them, however have to also think from the retailer perspective in that they don’t want to be giving away cash if they can help it. They want you to be spending more with them.

I just got some cashback from eBay on a refund!

I felt compelled to join the monzo community to see if others had noticed that, in exchange for using these cashback offers, monzo states that… (from the terms and conditions)…

We work with partners and merchants to offer you cashback.

We ā€˜de-identify’ your information, so our partners won’t learn your name and full address or any personally identifiable data. To tailor offers to you, we’ll share with our partners:

around a year’s worth of your Monzo spending history (physical or virtual cards) and your ongoing spending activity

your age bracket and first half of your postcode

a) this is far from a real process of de-identifying your customers.

b) Is it spending history related to the partner? Or all spending history? Be clear. If it’s the latter, this is an insanely large and private quantity of customer data you are providing to partners in exchange for whatever deal you’ve brokered.

c) a lot of your customers will make use of this offer without realising they are giving away their private spending history (and supposedly an unknown qualittiy of their future spending history for an unknown amount of time… Whether ā€œde-identifiedā€ or not.)

d) when does this partner data sharing occur? When I add a cashback offer and use it? Has it happened already without our consent? I understand you want to make your terms and conditions clear and simple, but this it too simple, there is no real information here to make a determination.

If I’ve misinterpreted these terms and conditions then I’m happy to be corrected. As my understanding stands, this seems like a cynical exchange for monzo to make a shed load of cash by selling valuable, private customer data behind a woefully inadequate anonymising method and poor, vague terms and conditions copy.

Suffice it to say, I won’t be using these offers.

It also worries me now that I’ve agreed to some other past monzo offer without realising that giving away my private data was buried in the T&Cs somewhere.

I would appreciate knowing what is currently actively happening with my spending history and I would appreciate a setting to toggle any sharing with partners other than monzo itself.

It can’t be only me who has noticed this…

You aren’t the only one - it has been discussed at reasonable length earlier in the thread. I don’t have the dates to hand though, you would have to do lots of scrolling sorry.

This was discussed at length previously here: Be part of our cashback pilot šŸŽ‰

Basically, there was a fairly sizeable backlash over the privacy aspect of cashback, and Monzo took steps to make it more clear as to what data is shared and how.

I believe now the app has one or two informative screens before you agree to enable cashback that have pretty clear text explaining how it all works - did you not see those when you enabled cashback?

Of course, at the end of the day, enabling it means your transaction data will be shared and it’s everyone’s personal choice whether to proceed or not.
I myself was against it at first, but after Monzo’s remedial action and my thinking that I don’t really use Monzo for spending (so there is very little transaction history to share), I opted in favour of it. But everyone will be different.

With regards to de-identifying customers, anyone who has ever delved into it knows de-identification techniques are mostly useless.

The spending history shared is all of it (not just the merchant for whom you are enabling cashback), this data goes to the aggregator to be then used to give you more relevant cashback offers; it’s early days, and we have yet to see what that means (in the latest round of cashback offers, I don’t think anyone got anything they’d consider ā€˜personalised’).

The data sharing occurs when you enable cashback, at least that’s my understanding of the process based on the explanations and documentation I’ve seen.

So I did my Xmas booze present shop at Asda this morning (10:17). The cashback appeared almost immediately in the app but not available to withdraw as yet (11:36), not that this a complaint. I assume it will be available tomorrow, so I am quite impressed.

From what I can see that was a one-off event. So I am pleased I didn’t buy something from the service counter before the bigger ā€˜event’.

You get the notification immediately but you cannot withdraw yet, as detailed in the OP:

Anyone else had trouble with cashback from Krispy CrĆØme? Mine tracked immediately on the 24th of November, but hasn’t cleared since.
Also how long do they take to investigate missing cashback? I raised missing Footlocker cashback over 3 weeks ago now - no response thus far.

Yep, me. 17 days and still nothing.

Thank you to whoever saw this and dealt with it.

Wow, what a strange coincidence!

Oh nice. Well at least we know it works :joy:
Still waiting on my Footlocker cashback ti be looked at.

Withdrew my Asda cashback this morning. Can’t argue with that.

Last month, I used the Trainline cashback offer and was charged the price of my ticket, upon which I got 4% cashback.

I have just checked my train times and prices for a journey tomorrow, and Trainline want a 59p booking fee, which swallows up the 16p cashback and some!

Needless to say, I won’t be taking advantage of that offer :man_shrugging:

They charge a BF on advance bookings. Pay on the day and there’s no BF.

Oh dear Trainline! That is just bad, thanks for the update.

That said, my Asda Cashback was just exactly what it said on the tin. The bad news is it was a one off event. I think I’ll just stick with the straightforward 1% at Chase, don’t need to activate, it just happens. Not only that I get the benefits from using my Ember Inns app at my local. Now there is some serious savings, if that is your local.

That is, of course, something crops up that is FAR more lucrative and just happens.
