I’ve just paid a fellow Monzo business customer and was astonished how unfriendly the payment flow was (on Android). When I expected:
- Them: to go to “Get Paid” select “Show QR Code” and enter the amount.
- Me: Open Monzo account with biometrics
- Me: Select Payments and “Pay someone”
- Me: Scan the QR code
- Me: Authorise via biometrics
Instead the flow was:
- Them: to go to “Get Paid” select “Show QR Code” and enter the amount.
- Me: Open Monzo account with biometrics
- Me: In Monzo, select Payments and “Pay someone”
- Me: Realise there is no way of scanning a Monzo QR code from the Monzo app
- Me: Close Monzo
- Me: Open Android camera app
- Click on the URL present by the camera app to open web browser
- Me: Select “Pay by easy bank transfer” and click “Pay by easy bank transfer”
- Me: Read the prompt to select my bank “Wel’ll take you to your bank’s app or website and prepopulate all the correct payment details”
- Me: Select Monzo
I then expected the Monzo app to open, for me to select the source account and then biometrics - but no… it was:
11. Enter my email address and click “Agree and continue”
12. Get taken to a generic TrueLayer payment screen asking for my Monzo account number, sortcode and email address…
13. Have to open my Monzo appwith biometrics
14. Click on the three dots against the card
15. Select “Share account details”
16. Try and past that into the TrueLayer form, but it fails
17. Reopen the Monzo app with biometrics
18. Click on the three dots against the card
19. This time, try “Manage account”
20. Copy the account number
21. Paste into the truelayer form (luckily I memorised the sort code)
22. Then have to approve it via the Monzo account.
At the very least I expected when I select “Pay from Monzo bank account” it to open the Monzo app to save me having to copy the details.
Business accounts don’t have the “Pay someone nearby” option either
