Blocked Card still being charged?

This was not ‘Authorised’.
My card details were changed and supposedly BLOCKED to stop a company I didn’t recognise from taking money from my card.
If I wanted to pay Microsoft then I would have updated my details with them but I froze my account with them in July not realising there was an outstanding payment.
That’s not my whole issue which I’m probably not explaining very well, I’m sure your getting the jist but just trying to be argumentative.
My issue is that if Bing can take money from my old card, what’s to stop (Beachside Rental USA) - the company I didn’t recognise in the first place and reported as fraud - from taking money as well if they just put in a “pending authorisation”

Which is exactly what has happened.

Speak to them. Don’t just ignore it.

They can’t do that, because they don’t have it.

Think of tunnels to your house. Bing have a tunnel, so they can crawl in. Beachside don’t have a tunnel or a spade.

None of this would have happened if you had cancelled with Bing instead of trying to hide from it.

Actually you couldn’t be more wrong.
The other company has the details as I had a card authorisation check from them before they tried to take £100, then £75, then £50 and so on.
So if Bing have my old details as did “Beachside rental” they have the tunnel and someone gave them the spade.

I’m not wrong at all. You are not reading or understanding what 4 or 5 people are trying to help you with.

No wonder support are passing you on. Everyone is sick of explaining it to you. :exploding_head:

I can assure you I’m not. I can see you’re understandably frustrated by what has happened and perhaps this is clouding your understanding of what people (including someone from Monzo) are trying to explain.

It might be one to pick up again tomorrow.

Consider it like Netflix, you only authorise it once, but it runs for years if you don’t actively end the subscription. This is how Microsoft have charged.

Banks use the auto updater service, so if your card is replaced or updated from stolen or whatever, the payment goes from the original card through to the latest until you actually cancel it.

That’s exactly his issue. The BeachBoys haven’t charged him a penny and never will.

I understand about the “Mastercard updater service”
On the page though, it states:

It’s called the “Mastercard Automatic Billing Updater”, and we’ve just turned it on for everyone. So, next time you replace your card, we’ll tell Mastercard in the background. Then, they’ll tell all merchants that support this service (most of the big merchants already do) that your card has been replaced, and give them the new details within two days. Easy

There’s nothing you need to do to turn this on, but you can opt out if you’d like – when you replace your card, we’ll ask you. And if your card’s replaced because it was lost, stolen or frauded, we’ll turn this off automatically.

So if the “Updater service” doesn’t pass on details if my card has been marked as fraud, why has it " updated" with Bing and whoever knows who else.

Yes.

Recurring payments move forward unless requested to be blocked or the service ended with the merchant by customer.

Fraudulent payments generally aren’t recurring so can’t carry forward. Which I believe hasn’t been carried forward reading through the comments while working

We use Braintree (a global payment processor) on all of our websites and they do it in reverse with all banks

If they try a card that declines, they ask the bank for the latest details and update automatically.

Edit to include source: Account Updater | Braintree Payments

They were running from Bing subscription and thought they’d get away without paying it if the card changed, got caught out and are now getting angry about it

I go through this all week every week at work, and explain the above multiple times a day sometimes.

Customers are baffled by it.

Now I know your just trying to rile things up.
I HAVEN’T avoided paying Microsoft Bing, I changed my card details because of a completely different company trying to take different amounts of money.

I’m not trying to “Stiff” bing and you’d know that if you didn’t just skim through my posts.

My issue is that if Microsoft didn’t have my updated details which I CONFIRMED by phone and they said that the payment was " Authorised" through my OLD card details, which means my BLOCKED card was still active.

It was supposed to be BLOCKED August 22nd! As confirmed by CS

Yet TODAY I was asked by CS if I would like my old card blocked?

It should have been done there same day I reported fraud on August 22nd.

Someone please say they understand this and I’m not going out my mind arguing with the usual forum ‘trolls’

It was and the subsequent message you got from them cleared that up and they apologised for being wrong:

NO!!!

This is what has happened. You had a prior agreement with them. That’s why they can continue to take payment. Support told you this but you chose to ignore it then too.

If you’re worried about future fraud, that won’t happen with the beach people. But it will keep happening with Bing, UNTIL YOU TALK TO THEM.

People trying to help you and you not listening does not make them trolls.

Thanks,

You’ve understood me perfectly.
I will just wait for the complaints process to run it’s course and hopefully the miscommunication can be picked up by Monzo and explained thoroughly.
Thought I was coming on here to try and get help from MONZO and others but it’s just the usual forum stuff.
Belittling and trolling.
I’ve marked your post as the solution because you are actually right.

Fwiw I had the same thing with my Barclaycard over the last week or so, I had actual fraudulent pending transactions carry across as pending to two new cards, and one transaction on the original card was actually charged to my first replacement card after the original had been cancelled. So it’s definitely confusing. It seems they’re powerless to stop them, Barclays are telling me they’re monitoring to see if the other pending transactions get charged, so it seems like they can’t just kill them. Once it’s authorised (in terms of by the bank, not me), it seems like it’ll just go through no matter what you do, which is how Bing were able to do so. But it’s counterintuitive that it would work like that, I certainly thought cancelling my card would kill off the pending transactions and it didn’t.

I imagine it will be the time between the message that was wrong and the one that corrected it which will determine whether a claim is upheld or not.

People are only human and mistakes can happen. This thankfully didn’t cause any issues.

Yes! I’m in the exact same position.
All the pending charges dropped after my card details were changed but Bing have carried over onto my new details, nearly 2 months later after changing my card details, which worries me about other “Pending charges” coming out next time I “unfreeze” my card.

I don’t know why this needs explaining again but I wasnt “avoiding” being charged, I actually have spoke to Bing and updated my card details to my credit card, the thing is, The Microsoft adviser told me it would be impossible for them to charge a New card unless it is specifically added to the Bing Ads payment method.

So the miscommunication ive had between Monzo and Microsoft blaming each other over old card details is in itself confusing.
