Beyond Meat & KFC partner for plant based "chicken"

Isn’t that already the case

I really like the idea of these alternatives to meat. However, would prefer them to be available in other forms than deep fried - so will continue giving KFC a miss.

Would far prefer in stir fries or curries - or barbecued…

You already can with Quorn etc?

Yes, but they seem so much less exciting than some of the newer plant-based meat alternatives that I’ve been reading about - but that aren’t yet available at scale in the UK.

Disclaimer; I’m a meat eater and love a good steak/burger/chicken

But several years ago, we tried a vegan restaurant in NY to see how the food compared. I ordered ‘steak and mash’ and was presented with a great looking plate. The mash was clearly cauliflower based and tasted great. The steak looked like steak and tasted like a really good steak. I couldn’t tell what on earth it was made from. When we asked the chef, it was basically beetroot. Mind blown. While I still eat (and enjoy) meat, I’ve chosen vegan meals in good restaurants many times and never had a bad experience yet. It is tempting…

I guess this is more aimed at those who aren’t veg or vegan. I’m neither, but these sorts of products, would at least help me reduce my meat intake, which I want to do.Sure, I can do that already, but I’m terribly fussy with taste and texture.

I can understand your point & I’d even give it a try but I don’t think there ever can be a replacement for eating meat by itself regardless if it’s been deep fried or not.

Corn for example, works amazing in spaghetti bolognese or a lasagna because it’s within a rich sauce etc.

I believe they call it “Plant Based ‘Meat Item’” is because they are not selling it as a version for vegetarians. They are targeting meat eaters too. They basically want you to pick their offerings regardless if you eat meat or not.

I try and stick to a more ‘whole foods’ based diet, which meat absolutely is, so I’ll probably steer clear of the ‘Beyond Meat’ stuff.

I just returned from some delicious vegan food in Madrid (though terribly difficult to be vegan there), and honestly I really like Beyond Meat burgers at Honest Burger.

I’m (mostly) vegan for various reasons, but the biggest one is that if I can have a lifestyle relatively similar to what I always had and NOT kill or use an animal in the process, why wouldn’t I?

I like burgers. So for me, these fake meats are awesome if they taste great because I do enjoy the taste of meat.

It’s just like alcohol free beer, or decaffeinated coffee. It’s often the taste that you crave, no matter what it’s made of.

That’s what I thought. But they should call them chicken flavoured nuggets in that case.
