Best Broadband

I dont get a choice of broadband so I’ll just say KCOM.

They don’t have a modem only mode (or bridged). At least they didn’t when I last checked.

You are better off just completely replacing the Vodafone box with something else.

You will need your Vodafone “PPPoE” username and password to do this. You will need to ask Vodafone CS for this, and chances are they won’t have a clue what you are talking about. I had to go through 4 different agents before I found one who knew what it was.

It’s a lot of hassle but worth the effort (in my opinion).

Any reason you want the Nighthawk? If you are after decent performance, avoid the big consumer brands. A MikroTik or Ubiquiti product will seriously outperform the Nighthawk, and at half the cost.

That makes the two of us :stuck_out_tongue:

Who are you forced to use?

Are their prices hiked up too with noone outside of your local areas seeming to care?

KCOM

Hello neighbour!

Tell me you have Lightstream?

Yup, not had any problems with it tbf. No complaints from me.

Agree other providers would be good, but not expecting that to change any time soon :frowning:

No it won’t. I think it’s a mixture of KCOM high line rental charges and political pressure - KCOM employ a lot of people locally. I can’t see a competitor coming ever.

The fibre is outstanding but I’m old enough to remember everything that came before it. £60 for 1.2mb broadband before we finally got Lightstream last year.

We’ve just moved onto the 400mbps unlimited package. I think I’m making up for all the years of internet poverty.

The new pricing changes are a lot better too. I moved to the 200Mbps unlimited package recently.

Yeah the pic&mix I agree are a lot fairer. Especially when you consider they were charging £10 a month for a landline no-one used…we don’t even have a phone.

However, I still think they’re about £8-10 a month more then what they could be.

I’ve been with Virgin since the days of NTL.

I have to say in my area they have been very reliable with excellent speeds.

Have had the odd problems over the years when they have gone down but generally it has been a green box issue and Virgin have fixed it promptly.

I am moving house in the next month and I can’t have Virgin in the new property (they don’t serve the area) so I will be following this thread closely!

7ms ping though.

A downside of HFC. You’d need real fiber if you want a lower ping, but honestly 7ms isn’t bad at all for most consumer-grade usages.

Nothing beats Hyperoptic if you can get it. Never had a problem and prices are also reasonable.
I am on a 150mb package and it’s never below 150mb.

With Now TV. It’s fine, we can’t get great speeds. Router is crap :poop:

Unfortunately as our entire estate has Openreach FTTP that means hyperoptic won’t touch us at all :sob:

+1 for Hyperoptic. I’d never heard of them until I moved into my current flat, where they were the default provider for the whole building. We had everything up and running within about an hour of moving in and never had any issues since. Also managed to get the 150mb package for £24 a month for the first year.

Previous landlord was using Virgin Media which would regularly drop out and was painfully slow at other times.

Good price what does it go up to after the initial period? What’s the usage allowance?

I get 415 mb solid - over wi-fi too if I’m close enough and unlimited usage for £50 a month.

£35 a month after the initial 12 months, no limits on usage.

Really good price - our nearest comparable package is £46.

Which goes back to my other point about the lack of competition here means we get ripped off!
