Indirectly, by Ian fixing a couple of Spar purchases that didnāt work, so it does indeed cover them.
Ran head first into the cashback limit today, have to say that itās a bit disappointing to make a decent sized purchase and have it cap out the cashback.
Wonder if there could be a slightly more flexible boundary on it like counting the last transaction that takes you over the cap (with a slightly higher cutoff) just to avoid having that disappointment when you go over the limit unexpectedly.
Finding out I could have saved a few more quid by waiting a day feels a bit meh in hindsight. Not the end of the world, just an observation.
Iām very intrigued to see what comes next⦠hoping it isnāt going to be a massive disappointment.
Possibly was a risk to choose these offers to start unless they are similar to those that will be offered. I suppose to get feedback they needed offers lots would use. It also is a v limited trial.
Iād be pleasantly surprised if the offers were this good once it fully launches. Iām expecting something similar to Curveās or Santander rewards.
I understand what youāre saying but thatās also not a Monzo problem? Thereās a cap in place, if you want to maximise it every month then you have to be clever where and how you spend, itās like any deal. Itās why I sign up to places with a birthday thatās only a couple of days away, wait till I get my discount email or voucher and then order.
If they started letting people go over on their last purchase āto avoid disappointmentā then everyone would just save a massive purchase till last, game the system and itād cost so much more for Monzo or whoeverās financing the deals, theyāre going to want to protect against that.
Iām not saying āfix it nowā or ādo it this wayā - just highlighting a potential thing that could come up based on my experience before Monzo roll it out to everyone with some of my thoughts.
Most people are aware of how limits work, itās not really confusing.
Making it so that your last transaction can go over makes it more confusing.
Came across this post so decided to post a quick comment.
Not seen the cashback feature on Monzo but will check it out, however I donāt like how where you spend your money is limited to partners that have signed up with Monzo.
I do like Chaseās cashback as it doesnāt restrict you to any particular retailer etc, also I even get cashback when using it abroad.
Monzo is paying the cashback on the trial, but when live, itāll be the merchants paying (happily be corrected on this).
Chase covers the cost on theirs I believe hence they can offer it on all transactions.
If it helps, cashback limits may be subject to change once live for all customers. But even so, I think it might be helpful to have a countdown showing how much available cashback is available in the 28 days rolling period - a bit like the other limits available in the app. Also showing how much has been earned in the same period. That way itās more obvious when youāll hit the limit if there continues to be one
The Monzo cashback is a trial, being funded, as far as we know, entirely by Monzo themselves, so limiting the range of retailers is fair, I think. Iām not part of the trail group so donāt know exactly what the range of retailers is. From reading this thread it would seem fairly extensive for such a trial.
But to be clear: This is not currently being funded by a partner sign-up
The engagement of Monzo staff on this thread, particularly helping sort out difficult Merchant issues is to be applauded. To me, at least, there seems to be a very genuine willingness to engage with customers to both monitor and learn from how the trial is panning out.
Information on any wider and/or incremental growth of the trial towards it being a fully-fledged offer will be coming in a few days time - I guess weāll get some indication then on just how succesful the trial has been and how the machinery to make this all work has functioned.
I guess Chase are big enough to throw money at it to help build up customer numbers
Even the Chase offer has a bag of exclusions though.
Itās not 1% on everything
True but it covers most everyday spending. Which is sort of how it markets it mostly.
It depends hugely on the retailers though.
Someone (I canāt be bothered to scroll and check) hit the Ā£20 limit at Morrisons very easily. Thatās a Ā£2k spend to get that with Chase!
Me, Iāve got Ā£1.84 ![]()
so Iād have been much better off with Chase
@MrsW maxed out at Ā£20 a few days ago and missed about Ā£3 āextraā (aka: with no limit, sheād have hit Ā£23 by now)
Iāve got Ā£8.34 so far in the same cycle. Kinda shows whoās tight and who spends.
I got about Ā£9 odd over a week, but that was just trialling it, missed out on a few Ā£ for buying from pets at home and then wondering why cashback didnāt come - didnāt activate it ![]()
I hit the limit easily enough. Supermarket shops alone were probably good enough for it. I havenāt looked to calculate how much I āmissed outā on, no point in tormenting myself. Not least because the cap was clear from the very start, so I canāt claim surprise (I knew) nor unfairness (they couldnāt have been any more up-front).
As a Yorkshireman Iād probably use the words ācarefulā and āprofligateā ![]()
Can anyone help me out here? ![]()
Whatās 10 x Ā£20?
