I used my driving license also and the exact details I had with my Barclaycard, oh well.
Not that I didn’t warn everyone
Barclays are shambolic.
The cards are horrible too.
They can come in handy as a makeshift scraper for grouting tiles / plaster filling jobs around the house
I dunno, if you’re an error code collector you’ll be right at home!
Given the general ropiness of the app, quite surprised to see that notifications actually work.
I’m very much a fan as Avios is a really useful benefit for me.
Between the Avios rewards (plus a bonus for having a mortgage with them), using the Avios Barclaycard, and shopping online via the BA Store, I find Avios pile up exceptionally quickly.
The annual voucher is also really good - I used mine as a cabin upgrade for a return trip to Chile in May so I’ve definitely had my money’s worth out of it.
Obviously only really comes into its own if you’re going to fly BA / Oneworld but if you are, I find it superb.
90% of my flights are on BA and Oneworld. Used almost all of my Avios recently on a handful of long haul flights so thinking of ways of bringing my balance back up!
I applied for the Avios Barclaycard but got rejected as they “couldn’t find me on the credit reference agencies” (?). So for now just Amex cards to get those Avios (and voucher).
Don’t forget to click through from the BA Store for online purchases too!
I could live with having to go to the local branch, except they said it would be a month before you could get an appointment. It was disappointing since previously when i had an account, i just turned up and waited. I don’t get why they make it difficult and put obstacles in the way.
You possibly could rock up to a quiet branch and say you need your ID sorting for a new account. Depends if you’re passing one though.
I would have to find one and drive to it. Many of the local smaller branches have closed. It’s quite frustrating. That said, I’ve not heard too many glowing things about Barclays on here of late, so maybe I would be better off leaving it.
They have these random non branch appointments at community centres and churches etc. I’ve used that a few times.
We have three types of Barclays Local:
- Our pods – these will normally either be outside in community spaces or inside public places like supermarkets, shopping centres or stations.
- In community sites – we’ll be in places that already serve the local people, like libraries, town halls, sports centres and community centres.
These (‘Barclays Local’) show up when you search for Barclays on Google Maps.
I’ve used a Barclays Local recently, offered in a small town where a branch recently closed. I chose it over the equidistant city centre branch because there was no way of booking the latter without talking to an advisor, they close at 5pm rather than 3pm and parking cost ~£1 in the town rather than ~£5 in the city.
It was fine, although their scanning method of holding a webcam above a table left something to be desired.
Sadly no Barclays hubs where I live currently, you have to go into the city centre, 40 minutes by car and then 10-15 walk. Much longer if you have to travel by bus.
There is a local banking van that comes to the nearby town but it’s only Lloyds and HSBC. The two banks that used to be there.
If fairness, I hardly use the branch but Barclays used to allow you to wait in turn and I don’t mind that. However now even if you queue, you will get rejected for new account openings if you don’t have an appointment.

Just incase there are any Tesco Bank customers out there.
Is this a thing for anyone else? I can’t see it anywhere in the Barclaycard app
What is the ‘View my card details’ feature, and how can I use this? | Barclaycard
Must vary from person to person - I don’t have view card details. Only Barclays could implement something so poorly
