I had a Barclaycard until six months ago when I closed it. Now I want to apply for a new one. I checked with customer service to find out the exact date it was closed as I know you can’t apply for a new card until six months have passed. Weirdly, a month or so ago I remember clicking on the credit cards icon on the products page in the app and it brought up the card comparison and application pages. Now when I tap on credit cards all I get is a screen headed “your Barclaycard” as though I still have one. Has anyone else recently applied for a card after the six month period and did you do it in app? Might try the website but I remember having to get profiles merged once before and that was a pain.
This is a bit bugged out. Two options, if you use Barclays online banking, log in to online banking and under borrow there should be an option for “Apply for a Barclaycard” (make sure to do this on a laptop/desktop as it does not work in mobile for some reason). Click the link on that page and you’ll be in a desktop version of what you used to see in the app so everything is pre-filled for you. Some of the cards may even show as pre-approved. You can then check your eligibility and apply. Otherwise just go to Barclaycard website and do a fresh eligibility check there, just be sure to use the same details to avoid it creating a new profile.
The black still
Surprised we don’t have a Barclays tech in here somewhere to give us any sneaky updates due to the app ![]()
Does anyone use Barclays for their main banking outside of Premier?
I’m not. Of all the banking apps I’ve ever used this one is so legacy it makes me think I’ve still got a Nokia 8310.
I don’t think anyone in the Barclays digital teams knows what FinTech means.
Barclays is my bills account; all my direct debits and standing orders come from there. It’s not a Premier account; just the ordinary account.
Does your salary go in? My friend at work says if it’s due a Monday it normally goes in Friday or Saturday or something.
No, my pension goes into Lloyds. However, I’ve heard from other people that salaries due on Monday go in on Saturday with Barclays.
Nice to know, thanks!
Does anyone know, as I’ve a Barclays Basic account, how long it could be before they upgrade it to a standard bank account? Or is there no given time?
May call up and ask tbf.
I don’t think it’s a case of Barclays deliberately paying early; but once they’ve cleared all the transactions for Friday, everything after that is dated Monday, and they ignore Saturday and Sunday.
NatWest used to do the same years back but they patched that.
I put an application through for a standard Barclays account in app, it tells me to call, I call and she’s saying go to branch - I said no the app is asking me to call, so I’m calling. . .
She’s put me on hold to find out why it said to call, which I’ve already quoted “we need to check some details, please call us” ![]()
This will likely result in a complaint ![]()
Update: she asked me to go through the application again, same result, so I need to go to a branch which is usually open 9:30-3:30 or whatever, my working hours ![]()
They seriously need a digital team to do this.
Further more, she put me on hold to speak with her manager, and then cut me off.
Wonderful.
Another update: apparently it’s not within their ethics to call customers back after disconnection?
Maybe off shore, but here in the UK it is courtesy.
Baffled.
There’s nothing great about Barclays to even lift a finger.
Yep, Barclays are unnecessarily hard work for some things.
I’ve being trying to find out why I can’t re-open an account with them, without having to go into a branch. I wouldn’t mind that if they would see you without an appointment, just waiting for turn. They used to do that. Now it’s an appointment system, with a minimum one month wait, which is nuts.
It’s a 90 day wait if you’ve been rejected.
Or a 6 year wait if they closed your previous account; as I learnt.
It’s not rejected, they want to see additional Id and I left them, I transferred to NatWest . It must be about 10 years ago.
I have a Barclaycard, so all my details are current.
Barclays is my main account and has been since 2008 when I started working for them and had to open an account with them for my salary to be paid into. I was previously with NatWest prior to this since childhood.
I have flirted with others over the years since, mainly due to wanting to add to my card collection. I even went #FullMonzo back when they started offering current accounts but something always draws me back to Barclays. I don’t even think their app is as bad as some people make it out to be. It does everything I need. And I do have most banks’ apps on my phone that I play around with.
Oh and yeah, if my salary is due on a Monday (last working day of the month) then it shows as available from early hours Saturday morning.
