Bagels 🄯

A version of this is actually one of my weekly staples at the moment! You can make a really good smoked salmon alternative out of carrots and nori (with a few steps granted) and vegan ā€˜cream cheese’ is everywhere.

Couldn’t say anymore if it’s very close to the original but it makes a darn fine bagel!

Really want to go to Leigh Bagel Bar in Leigh-on-Sea now :sob:

Avocado Chilli Bagel is the one. A lovely fresh avocado with a little salt and some red chilli powder. Delicious!

I work in startups, what else do you expect? :joy:

Just think how many properties you could have if you didn’t spend it all on avocados though?

This is an excellent bagel though - I like it with tomato, onion and far far too much chilli.

My personal favourite Lockdown Bagel recipe is simply:

  • Bagel
  • Butter

Don’t even bother cutting the bagel. Apply butter directly to the surface and eat it like an apple.

I sometimes cut a bagel from the top, into slices, and eat it with hummus

Once you’ve savaged through the top layer, do you reapply butter as you drop crumbs walking back to your desk?

Or do you have desk butter?

Desk. Butter.

Never have two words seemed so oddly placed, and yet right.

Ā£5 says Simon has had avocado hand before

Desk Butter.

I knew there was something missing from my life. Sadly I’m out of bagels right now, but when I go on my next Essentials trip, I’ll be living my best lift.

(And obviously you reapply the butter. If it’s soft enough you can eat it like dip. Just saying).

It looks a little like this

I love Brussel pĆ¢tĆ© on bagels. You could maybe also try a soft cheese spread. I normally do roasted cheese on bagels but that’s probably not an option here.

Firstly It’s not bagel it’s biegel. my grandma is probably turning in her grave at the over use of Bagel. :joy:

Secondly Try hummus, beetroot and chicken. Even nice without the chicken and just salad leaves. Enjoy

Salt Beef Bagel is my favourite

From that shop in Brick Lane?

I’ve been getting close to a variant of this that I think is almost perfect.

Using Quorn ā€˜chicken’ on a previous posts recommendation (I’ve never tried ā€˜fake meat’ before but in this context it works well), a layer of the obligatory hummus and then sliced cucumber for texture. I think replacing the cucumber with pickled beetroot could be a winner and I’ll try that next!

I tried to get the chicken one on my delivery this week as I know I love that but it wasn’t in stock, they’ve sent me a ham version which I’ve not tried yet, going for a long walk in a bit and when I get back it’ll be a sandwich with the fake ham and pickles

Well if you want to be that semantic you grandma should have been using the word bajgiels.

But who the hell cares

So it’s not a bagel but I had hamless ham, picalili, red onion chutney, beetroot, pickled onions, pickled red cabbage and picked cucumber. Was pretty tasty to be fair and would work in a bagel

Does anyone know why New York Bagel Co. (I think that’s there name) stopped slicing their bagels? I remember they said it was customer feedback or something like that but does anyone use bagels and not slice them?
