Apple’s “Scary Fast” October Event

Yeah, could have been that. Only caught the last 30 seconds of the report - but it was clear about improved NC

I thought that it had already been stated (by Mark Gurman) that it’s just new Macs.

Anyone else sticking around to watch? :eyes:

I wonder if there’s any gaming announcements this time around… Rumors are it’s later so that it’s morning in Japan! But how likely that is, no idea. Apple buys Nintendo

Yup we have a live event running for it over on discord, and I just this minute got done with my work for the day, so I’m ready! :ghost:

MacBook Pro starting with the base M3 chip seems like a strange decision  Will have to see what they do for the Air and what the pricing is, but would be a shame to see a return of the situation from several years ago where the Air was too close to the base Pro to the point there would no point getting it. That, and a “Pro” machine starting with a base chip just feels weird.

Keep seeing a lot. The entry level MacBook Pro has always started with the base M series chip. Not pro.

Makes no sense to me they’re still doing it, but it’s not a new thing.

Godzilla getting shown off and space black means my bingo card for the event is already checked of.

Although there’s still one more mini thing to check off.

Has it? The current one starts with the M2 Pro.

Oh actually okay I’m talking about the newer generation design, the base M2 is used with the older 4th generation Touch Bar model they still offered. I presume that’ll be discontinued finally now. So I guess not strange in the sense of continuity, but feels like they should just start with the Pro chip given the name of the machine.

Oh, that’s it.

I feel like that could have been a press release :joy:

Nah, that production value was top notch. And the theming. I want one of these every year. Short but sweet, and a nice little brag at the end, which they wouldn’t have been able to do with a press release.

This event was Shot on iPhone and Edited on a Mac.

They don’t say which Mac, but they do specify the phone was a 15 pro max.

Yup, it’s dead. Completely gone from the website. RIP Touchbar.

Disappointed they didn’t switch the Mac accessories to USB-C with the iMac.

Didn’t mark German say that was happening?

Some journalist somewhere promised me an iPad mini. That was a no show too.

Fair, it’s impressive it was shot on an iPhone, I wouldn’t have guessed that while watching. I guess I was just expecting more than an iterative chip bump, though the new space black looks nice. Sadly I don’t have a need for a MacBook Pro these days, my performance desktop needs are met by the Studio and my portable lighter workload machine is an M2 Air (in Midnight). I’d seen rumours of a base “MacBook” in the same colours as the iMac, but to be honest what with the Pro having the base M3, I can’t see how there’s room for 3 laptop classes in the range.

Gives me more time to clear my PayPal Credit balance before upgrading at least. All I want from the iPad mini is a ProMotion display, if it gets that I’ll be ordering immediately.

The base pro is still pretty expensive with that XDR display.

That’ll be a much bigger differentiator than the previous pro it’s replaced, so there’s certainly. I expect it’ll be filled by the MacBook Air though.

Air and Pro is all we need.

Interesting gbp has tanked since the iPhone events so gbp prices are up against the dollar again from what I can see.

Also base 14” pro is £1,699 and m2 air is £1,399 so once chip is upgraded I feel it is a big enough difference to mean the air isn’t pointless. Also hopefully the base air will go down in price a bit once not the first generation of the refresh. Can’t see them putting an m2 in the old air design and they need something at the $999 price point.

Rather disappointed in this event. I was hoping for at least an iMac with a Pro chip because I’m looking to replace my base model iMac Pro that I bought in 2017. Looks like I might have to consider the M3 Pro Mini if it appears or the base Studio and a separate monitor.

An M3 iMac is still a huge upgrade over the old Pro, whichever way you look at it (as long as you don’t look at screen size)

Yes, but it’s not just performance but the screen (as you say). I’m now so used to the 5K 27" that I think the 24" would be too small. I’ll have to go and play with one in the Apple Store to see for sure.

I’m guessing most old 27" iMac users are now going with the Studio + Studio Display combo. As much as I love the iMac design, I personally would much rather have the flexibility of a modular setup.

Was hoping that the base M3 iMac would be up from the 8GB/256GB combo, but of course Apple doubles down and even starts the new base MPB at 8GB! (at least the storage is 512GB).

This event had press release written all over it.
