App Evolution (new look Monzo app): Feedback Megathread šŸ“£

I only have the one chase account. Will keep the joint Monzo account that I have with my wife. Will not use my personal Monzo account. This way, I get the separation of concerns.

As for Monzo’s budgeting features - I’ve heard people speak of them, but I’m not aware of how to use use them or find them. I do allocate money to pots - it’s more convenient than throwing the money into a separate bank account… however, now that savings accounts are starting to pay I might move the money there.

I also have spreadsheets for everything - a long history of spreadsheets.

I came here to write exactly the same thing.

Organizing my expenses now is just so hard. I don’t wanna to mix personal and join account.

I even stop to tell friends to join monzo since this is so messy now ><

Just to add to this, it isn’t great. Too much information is compressed into too little space. Mixing the accounts together like this is not a good idea. Revert. Try a different design, ship that. Please…

Regarding a lot more taps to do the same workflow: Isn’t it only one more tap to look at things on a per account basis? Once you enter the card carousel (one tap) can’t you swipe left/right between accounts instead of doing the double tap home icon thing (I didn’t even know that was possible!).

Regarding the combined activity feed on the new home screen: I think there are people who like this feature so I suspect Monzo won’t remove it or split it it up. But perhaps they could give people the option to hide it via the edit layout options. As long as the card carousel remains (or something like it) a combined activity feed doesn’t seem like an essential feature to me.

I would hide that Activity Feed in a heartbeat, given the option.

Probably makes for an interesting poll…

If you had the option to hide the combined activity feed on the new home screen, what would you do?

  • I’d hide it
  • I’d keep it
  • Unsure

Merging (combining) appears to be what most the complaints are about

Glad I only have a personal account.

To be honest I like that the feed combines my personal and joint transactions. I also got the Flex transactions being included yesterday which I love and have been waiting for.

I prefer to use it as an ā€˜at a glance’ type feed. I can see everything going out and in across all the Monzo accounts at the once. Then if I need the granularity of specific accounts I know I can select the card and see just that accounts transactions. Or if I want to check what I’m spending money on I use the target tab of trends and that pulls information from the Personal, Joint and Flex accounts together with another two other accounts (RBS) that I have showing in Monzo.

The single Pots view is the most annoying for me. Yes, it’s better than it was - two totals at the top, a slightly better indication on each pot as to whether it’s personal or joint, and the ability to view as a list not a carousel. But for me, personal and joint pots should still be two separate lists. One’s ā€œmineā€. The other’s ā€œoursā€.

When I create a new personal pot it appears right at the bottom of the whole list. Yes I can go in and drag it above our joint pots but that’s a pain.

And to mark the separation between personal and joint pots, rather than making all the images one colour for each I’ve ended up doing this:

Is the second line under the title of the pots new? I’ve only just noticed it. Where it now says personal or Joint?

I assume that ā€œPersonalā€ and ā€œJointā€ only appear if you have both accounts. Previously it was a single- or double-headed silhouette. But despite that marker I still prefer something more obvious as the demarcation between the two sets (even though I’m using a pot to mark it).

The fact that Revels is colouring his pot images and I’m doing this, IMO just emphasises the fact that there should be two separate sections.

If the list is merged, then people who want it merged can shuffle them however they want to, and people who do NOT want it merged can sort personal first, joint second, possibly with a dummy separator pot, as shown above - you could call one something like ā€œ-------------ā€ I would guess. You can also recolour your icons if you choose, but it’s optional.

If the list is NOT merged, there are zero workarounds to help the people who would like to see their personal and joint bills pots together, followed by their personal and joint saving, etc.

So whichever way you feel is ā€œrightā€, the merged list allows you to at least approximate it. Separated lists take that away.

Oh yeah, the Personal and Joint tags on the pot list is definitely brand new.

Only a couple days ago I changed two pot names to Personal Bills and Joint Bills to make it easier to differentiate.

I guess I can change that back now.

Either way, we shouldn’t need to be looking for ā€œworkaroundsā€. A simple toggle on the pots section menu labelled ā€œSplit by accountā€ or similar would solve it.

They could either keep both totals at the top and insert a suitable separator, or use the joint pots total as the separator.

Better still offer three options (combined, personal pots first, or joint pots first).

One pattern I’m noticing here isn’t actually a huge distaste for the combined feed, but more a distaste for the combined personal & joint accounts. Some love it, some hate it, and for what its worth I totally understand both sides.. (#teamcombine)

The only logically way I see this getting resolved is having a toggle, where each person connected to the joint account will get an option to either merge them or have it work the same way it does when you switch to your business account.

Side note, we really need a pot image generator in-app, similar to the the tool somebody created, it would be a huge win UX wise!

Also..

Absolutely killing it with the pot layout! Now I’m curious what pots are for what :eyes:

How does this work?
Is there a completely different environment for the business account?

Like this, you access this menu by tapping your profile picture. You’ll have to excuse the redaction, I’m awaiting payday and I wasn’t about to expose myself after a heavy month :sob:

(would love the ability to swipe between them tbh)

When you enter the business account, is your Trends and Payments tab different from the Personal account, or is it only the Home tab that’s different?
