Android "Q" Beta Leak!

This is pretty interesting!

Amongst other stuff…

  • System Wide “Dark Mode”
  • Revamped Permissions screen
  • Hints of a “Desktop Mode” - maybe something like the Samsung DeX
  • Freeform windowing

I wonder how early on Google will release a public beta this year…

Dunno, but I’m in…

Of interest is the (reported) change to the data in apps only being updated if they are being used - background apps will no longer update data, saving battery/location-pings/data usage/etc.

I’m going to be keeping a close watch of https://www.google.com/android/beta today :eyes:

Android Q might be launching today :tada: which means I’ll be rocking a wildly unstable Pixel 3XL for the next 6 months, jumping from preview build to preview build :joy:

But hey, that dark mode though :smirk:

First time in a long time that I won’t be eligible for the beta as I’m still rocking an OG Pixel XL.

Apparently there’s this feature called Treble which makes it quick and easy to update phones but I guess Google don’t have the resources to support their two year old flagships. #LeadingByExample

I only just got P :sob:

The big question is will Monzo work out of the box with Q?

(Also: channelling Bond)

I’m sure there’s a detective out there who might be able to find out

I wonder what said detective would prioritise: bleeding edge Q or a functioning Monzo? (A diabolic choice, I know…)

It’s ok, I’ll run Q on my android and monzo on my iPhone

scarper :innocent:

Hahaha, my genuine answer would be stick with Q and offer as many details as possible to the Android devs in order to get it working :sunglasses:

Perhaps we can look forward to tomorrow instead

More details coming out, must be getting closer to release:

The Q beta will apparently be available to even more devices compared to the Pie beta from last year. That one was available on devices by 8 different OEMs (Google, Essential, Nokia, OnePlus, Oppo, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi). If they can get Samsung, LG, or Huawei on board this year that would be pretty cool.

Being a huge Google nerd I listen to the android developers backstage podcast and their project treble stuff has come along way they said in the last episode. I can see Q reaching more devices then ever

If, like me, you don’t want to do something as simple as an OTA

You can download the full factory image here: https://developer.android.com/preview/download

Otherwise: https://www.google.com/android/beta enrol here :sunglasses:
