For Android users, does the map use Google, or the Apple maps web API?
Part of me really wants to give this a go, but Monzo is really ticking all the boxes right now, so nothing to really differentiate this. Especially if it’s not a bank.
But given I can’t seem to tell the difference between them and Kroo, probably better I pass!
The reviews on Trustpilot are pretty bad, but not sure if that’s “normal” for new neobanks, or if it’s people complaining about legitimate security interventions (I know Monzo had complaints of accounts being closed for example that were for regulatory reasons).
Several people using it as a primary account which to me is brave for something so new.
Just read reviews on trust pilot - surely people aren’t paying salary into it directly?
Also one review talks about their wages being paid in from employer but then go onto say they are self employed.
Some others the use of English isn’t great. I do wonder how many of them are blocked for money laundering reasons just like Monzo and Starling.
Yeah that’s what I figured. I wouldn’t be surprised if banks/apps like this are used by criminals if they’re easy to open and maybe have less elaborate or sophisticated fraud detection systems than bigger banks. Can understand people moving daily spending to an account like this but Monzo and Starling are the only two non-high street banks I’d consider moving full salary and bill paying responsibilities to.
Algbra isn’t a bank, and monzo was once in this position.
All account opening procedures are likely in line with the rest ala Starling and Monzo (at least look that way) so there is really little difference.
Newer fintech models like Algbra probably won’t make the same mistakes monzo did way back when to get numbers (allegedly, or whatever it was) and be more attentive to laundering and other antics criminals use.
Not too different to those screaming loudest about revolut on Reddit about account blocks, until you go to dig in to what actually happened and they go silent or refrain from answering
It’s not bad, for a beta it’s where you would expect it to be. With time and effort it could be a good option, or get swallowed up by a larger bank. (A mix of this and FD would be ace )
I don’t know sorry, but I presume yes?
What’s the suggestion here?
Yes, each to their own I suppose but this is what puts me off. I appreciate the Trustpilot reviews can’t be fully trusted per se, but I can’t risk my monthly budget being blocked.
I think overall it’ll go one of two ways. Up the wall or acquisition. But if it doesn’t, it could have good prospects.
The UI is super nice and seems really reliable
Well. The stories you read about monzo.
I’ll leave it there.
Just more I don’t have to be too conscious about what I say as there’s no “let’s have a meeting not a meeting but be careful what you say” kind of meeting
As in they opened accounts they perhaps shouldn’t have done and had to close them?
I hadn’t even noticed they were offering this so was surprised when I had 10p left in my account after I spent £10…
Unlike Chase as well, the cashback is immediately in your account, not in a separate ‘space’ that you need to then manually transfer over (or wait until they reset it).
They (Algbra) will need to be a bit careful though - or they could get an influx of Chase account holders in March once they switch over to the maximum amount of cashback per month rather than unlimited cashback. If/When they setup Apple Pay I’d probably switch over to using Algbra as my main spending account from Chase, and probably but Chase in hibernation.
Disposable Cards “for one time payments” sounds interesting.
Might get it just for that.
It also comes with restrictions such as cash withdrawals, quasi cash payments, betting payments, gambling payments and certain other transactions, though I haven’t found these listed anywhere
Surely you are bound by confidentiality even if you’ve left Monzo
I thought most employers had some kind of wording meaning an ex-employee couldn’t state that things were crap after they’ve left. I’m happy he can but I just wondered.
Most people, unless horrifically treated, will just let it go.
If you’re moving in the same industry like Carlo is, it would be monumentally stupid to badmouth them because you never know who will move where.
Just to confirm, Coral Crew can’t read DMs.
