You have to click a giant red button right at the bottom of all the account settings that says ‘close account’, then you get another ‘Are you sure?’ prompt.
You are correct. There’s more of a safe guard than say deleting a message. It’s more like being the equivalent to deleting an app or an account on a phone or PC. But with these examples you can restore without loss of functionality. It’s just hassle.
The Monza app just goes ahead and doesn’t give you an ability to restore.
But t’s not enough of a safeguard for an actual bank account. I absentmindedly thought I was deleting a message or something. I’m tech and app savvy, which was probably my downfall. Stupid but humans can be absent minded
My suggestion is that to close the account you have to compete in a motor race around the Monza circuit against a Monzo staff member. If you lose, the account stays open. I think that would be the appropriate amount of friction in this scenario.
I think the only challenge here is you and your inability to understand what closing an account means, and then moaning you closed it after being asked if you wanted to close it
