I don’t think I’ve ever heard of such a thing. What’s the context?
If I’ve been renting before I’ve needed a recommendation letter from someone else who acts as a guarantor, and also a bank statement but that’s about it.
Unfortunately this isn’t something we’re able to provide.

I’m sure there’s a topic someone made about service charges on a property they were buying.
The management wanted a letter of recommendation or similar for the buyer to confirm they won’t have any issues with the payments of the service charges.
Sounds like this could be similar but I’m not sure, working for a few banks historically it’s not something I’ve ever come across.

There is on a similar thread. Basically a few ways of proving you’re good for the money. I too have had landlords when I used to rent who insist on it.

For those that might say it’s not needed - very easy to say from a position of privilege and something Monzo really should do to reduce barriers to support people finding a home that works for them.
While you’re right in what you’ve said, the link you’ve sent is for a different matter - that thread is them wanting proof of payment, not a bank reference showing the account in good standing.

Most information online refers to credit related references. However, when I worked for Midland Bank they and the other clearing banks did provide character references. I’m not sure if they were in writing or verbal. With regard to the credit references, they would state phrases such as “good for your figure” or “can’t speak for your figure” in relation to the sum involved. As an aside, there were also coded messages if the bullion van was on the way with a supply of money.
