£100 minimum topup for Students?

Hold on. You’ve done it for me :joy::joy:. Although it’s a card that many students wouldn’t be accepted for.

The vast majority of credit cards charge for cash advances. So you are
likely to have a credit card that charges then one that does not. Is this
credit card issued by LBG?

Halifax is part of Lloyds

Yeah it’s issued by Halifax which is part of Lloyd’s banking group

I have a Halifax Clarity card because I read about the cheapest way to do foreign exchange abroad on @MartinSLewis , but they only gave you the list of transactions (at master card rates) in your monthly statement so switched- very happily to Monzo - haven’t used it since but still keep it for emergencies (if only I could remember the PIN  )

Yeah. It’s a great card and something that works really well for things like international travel. As long as you pay it off in full at the end of the month you get a perfect exchange rate with 0 commission. Same as Monzo.

Indeed it is part of Lloyd’s Banking Group.

I have a Clarity, accepted as a student BTW, a Travelex Supercard (works like Curve for those unfamiliar), and now Monzo. Previously used Supercard as main card when travelling, using Clarity when Supercard declined for whatever reason, or to get cash out now Supercard charges a 2.99% fee. Will switch to Monzo for cash from now but still keep the Clarity as my second backup.

Remember that the clarity provides protection on large purchases. Even abroad like any credit card.

I am aware - I just don’t tend to make large purchases when abroad. The last item I purchased abroad that would have been eligible was a laptop in the USA over 2 years ago!

Well we’re a transparent bunch and it’s good to keep an eye on the competition. There’s even a whole topic dedicated to it

Yeah, cash advances on my credit card I’ve avoided for the fees mentions above. I avoid cash for the most part, really. It’s slowly getting to the point where it is indeed feasible to go completely cashless, though there are some retailers that still insist on charging consumers fees.

Would totally agree that this is something that needs to be taught. Tax returns, NI, income tax, budgeting are amongst a few of the things I wish were properly covered in a school environment.

There’s a nice safety net with the maintenance loans in that even if you do spend all of your loan, it’s given in installments - and I can tell you from experience that a week or two of eating noodles is a good motivator to properly plan finances for next term!

Kinda bummed about this to be honest, but no real reason other than favouritism. Meh.

I’m sure the decision was well-considered and based on growth, which ultimately is good for everyone.

Good to see around 1500 students signed up for a Monzo account this month, with Bristol steaming ahead, despite Exeters Facebook page great video receiving 1900 views so far.

A good advert for Monzo from @bailey and the team.

Any update on spend, spend categories, spend in Countries ?

So “normal people” are still expended to pay £100.00? Shakes head and shrugs shoulders Looking on the bright side I am officially worth 4 students. Lol that was a joke for the students reading this.

Not pay “load” / “top up” £100.
