No updates, and they’ve actually reverted the images in Google play store. I still have the new app, which seems to be far better than the iOS version (not that I’m using zopa for anything anymore - I gave up on their savings after 3 days
)
The app has changed, just not via an update from the store.
It looks much better than before.
It’s however now terrible to the point I’m wondering if the extra £1-2 a month I get from them makes it more worth it than just taking the loss. It’s not like £24 a year makes any meaningful difference to my life.
I only use Zopa for the extra savings rate and I’ve only got two months left.
I don’t mind the way the app looks, there are worse apps out there. I only check it once a month, so I personally can live with it
I have been offered an update. I am just refusing to install it so don’t know what it does!
So was I but there are others who now pay more interest such as Cynergy and First Active (part of NatWest)
First Active is brand new. Might open myself an account with them!
But do those other options have ‘pots’ ?
With Zopa I can segment the savings into different buckets and that’s very useful.
However I might look at the other options when the extra interest runs out
You can open as many cahoot accounts as you want…
First Active seems to only be one account from what the website says. Shall apply later and give a definitive answer.
Has anyone had their salary paid into Biscuit?
OH noticed they don’t show upcoming bacs but was curious to know what time he might be paid?
Rant incoming.
I had a look at Nat Wests new under the counter First Active account (name rather similar to First Direct?) (not to mention FirstSave and First Bank, who are domiciled in Nigeria but trade in the UK)
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it a real bind jumping through multiple hoops when applying for a new account online.
I appreciate the security principles involved but FFS. I get heartily fed up of having to respond to sundry text messages and emails for dual factor authentication, which usually requires the use of 4 hands and five devices. Then having to dream up yet another password. Finally having to submit a live video and photo id, that’s going to be held on file forever.
It’s the last one that really bugs me. Not all providers require them, and there are definitely occasions where I have abandoned an application that does, purely because I can’t be bothered. Can’t they just look at my credit score?
This is easily done if you use a password manager. All your passwords have to be different nowadays anyway.
I see this as a good thing as I assume it goes towards reducing identity theft/impersonation/etc.
I know banks seem to make up their own laws sometimes, but surely they are bound by GDPR so if you close your account they will have to delete that data after a certain time.
Meh. Still a bind, even with a password manager. And I have no confidence in GDPR whatsoever.
Plus, I don’t want to make an impromptu video when I haven’t shaved or combed my hair for 3 days…
I see it as a bad thing, this should literally just be done via a national identity app. Relying on private firms instead of API calls
That’s how all their mates make money though.
They already make money, bottom line is I’d rather the contracts be kept within government so at least I don’t have to give my passport photo + selfie to tens of private companies.
Government verifies your identity, only needs to do so once per device. App kicks you back to the government app to share identity data and that’s all that in theory should be required, without giving sensitive abusable photos to anyone.
Even better, assuming it gets hacked (without access to production systems) it’s still useless because data is only relevant if they can forge your identity via the “sent to government app” process.
Having your name, DoB and knowing a bit of information about your pets wouldn’t be enough to defraud anyone with your identity.
Is that because you live in a dictatorship country and they must give everything to the government anyway?
The EU is a dictatorship because they have a proper national ID system too presumably?
I’d rather give my information than the government already have to the government than some private company, but that’s just common sense talking
Your ideology is very built around what China is and what China does, but don’t just come forward and say it.
The UK Govs mates in the ID business field make a good penny from sourcing banks and other products requiring verification.
They wouldn’t make as much if they brought it in house, it doesn’t work like that.
First Active confirmed as one account only, and if you’ve had an account and closed it, that counts as the one!
Having said that, I thought this was new to the market, so not sure how you would have closed an account.
I’ve not closed any First Active stuff? My application today is my first interaction with the brand?
