It’s probably fine but I think the advice is to not make any changes between offer and completion. I held off completely until I had the keys.
They wouldn’t see the search but if Zopa report to CRAs they could see a new account opened, no?
It’s unlikely they will be reporting a beta account with no lending services to the cras but even if they did it’s the search that would have an impact (albeit I think people worry too much about this - unless you’re applying for a very extreme case of a mortgage 1 search is unlikely to do anything)
I didn’t even have to provide a wage slip for my last mortgage application…
Exactly. It’s probably a non-issue, but is it worth the risk? Up to @Marenello I suppose.
Contact Zopa to establish the risk. If they say they don’t report to CRAs or conduct hard credit searches (more than likely given the beta status) then there isn’t one.
Alternatively, forget the entire thing and revisit it once you’re all moved ![]()
As with most things there is a factual/technical or an emotionally driven option you can take.
The FAQ on their website states that they only do a soft search (which lenders cannot even see).
Not surprising. If there are no overdraft facilities available there’s no reason to hard search really
Whether it shows on a credit file is another question but this requires a decent amount of work on the banks side, are they likely to have done that when it’s a beta product? If I were a betting man…
It took Chase ages to start reporting to CRAs.
It’s a big undertaking! Not akin to turning on a switch.
Thanks all for the input, really appreciate it. Will have a think!
I previously had regular soft searches from Zopa. I asked them why and they said it was due to my looking at various products on their app. I don’t need or want a loan but in any case the soft searches inflict no damage.
Zopa has bumped it’s instant access ISA rate up, I think the standard rate (without bonuses) is now 4.0%
Yep, I’ve got 5.21% with bonus
How long is the bonus? Quite a few seem to be for 3 months only…
Indeed, 3 months.
It’s a bit slow to load some screens on Android, but definitely better overall than e.g. Chase.
A major issue we once had with the Zopa app is when they decided to include trackers in it that were blocked by the usual blocklists that adblockers use. I have NextDNS set up LAN wide as well as on our phones so that made the app completely unusable. Support eventually understood what I was telling them, and it got fixed, but that put a serious dent in my trust in them.
I have seen similar issues on iOS. Sometimes it loads with the “enter your passcode” screen but doesn’t trigger FaceID for about 3-4 seconds, sometimes it gets stuck loading forever after tapping on a balance. A force quit always fixes it but it can be a bit frustrating. “Luckily” the bank account itself is not yet fully-featured enough for me to even consider using it as a daily account.
Amex do that though. You can have a question which they answer and they ask if there is anything else you want…. Then almost instantly they have the script up saying it’s been a while since you’ve responded and they close the transcript. It’s a quick way to end the chat so you’re not holding them up.
Zopa have had an issue for the last few days where you can’t move money into any access ISA pots. Yellow banner now displaying in the app.
