I’m uncomfortable with the idea that I have to justify to a bank what I want my money for before I’m allowed to have It.

This is a standard practice across all banks Matt, our withdrawal limits on the account are extremely generous and should cover all day to day usage scenarios.
However should you wish to withdraw more cash in a short period of time (you can always wait for the limits to refresh) you will need to contact us and answer a few questions. This is so that we can verify the authenticity of the transaction and to ensure that Monzo isn’t being used for things such as money laundering.
