I still have that
Isnât the whole thing about Wise that theyâre really good at transfers between currencies? Surely having the calculator front and centre isnât clutter?
Sure there might be a subset of customers who having this dismissible makes sense, but I wouldnât go as far as calling this clutter.
It could be far smaller, everything in the app looks to be expanded for the visually impaired.
The kids card is a nightmare already. Been to Lidl and Farm foods, POS machines say card type not supported.
I was making the first chip and PIN transaction so that I can enable contactless. Card also has no Apple Wallet support.
Edited to add categories blocked by default, these stores are not in any of those.
Itâs all to do with MCC codes (merchant category codes), different businesses have different MCC codes and sometimes they get set incorrectly which can have an impact on stuff like kids cards and cashback on rewards cards.
Edit: Meant MCC ![]()
MCC can be variable, like Supermarket including alcohol and nicotine products, which might be why itâs declining.
Yep could just be an unfortunate case that those store operate under MCC 5921 (the restricted MCC)
These two stores are local to me and always have the correct MCC assigned from other Mastercard and Visa cards I have used. They are always categorised as grocery stores with no fail. The Natwest Rooster works in these stores with no issues.
I am not buying this MCC reason, I think it is poor implementation with Wise.
What MCC is wise telling you it is?
I doubt that they can even see anything. I havenât contacted them yet.
The POS immediately say card type not supported the moment you put it in, before you even enter PIN.
No notification whatsoever from Wise.
Ah of course.
Sounds more like itâs the BIN and the merchant needs to update their card machine if itâs saying not accepted and not reaching the issuer (Wise).
I get your doubts, but Wise, Monzo, Revolut e.t.c donât set MCCs they just receive them and act on them. usually the MCC is set by the Supermarkets payment processor (merchant acquirer) not Wise, Revolut, Monzo e.t.c. thatâs a common misconception the neo banks just act based on the MCC theyâre sent
This could be it most likely
Also or course they can see MCCs, thatâs how they know a kid is trying to purchase alcohol if they go into an off license which has a specific restricted MCC that the flags with the bank who sees the card is a kids card and reject the transaction
I have now requested a call back from Wise, let me see what they say.
Yeah kids card has different BIN 45966190
Itâs like the Monzo acceptance crap all over again
but yeah likely a BIN problem, only solved by the merchant updating their machines. Most should do it automatically via their payment processor.
Wise see nothing on their end, not payment attempts.
So I still rule out MCC.
Could be BIN. I am still on the call on hold as they check a bit more.
Wise kids cards (Young Explorer) are not accepted at Lidl primarily due to the cardâs BIN and its classification as a prepaid childrenâs card, rather than an MCC issue with Lidl. The BIN identifies the card issuer (Wise) and type (prepaid kids Visa), which Lidlâs payment processor may reject based on risk rules or policies against certain prepaid or youth cards, even if standard Wise cards work. Processors occasionally block specific BINs from fintechs like Wise, especially kids variants with parental controls or beta features. Kids cards have built-in blocks for age-restricted merchants, but supermarkets like Lidl arenât affectedâMCC doesnât trigger this. Check Wise app for exact decline reason (e.g., merchant rejection, frozen card, limits); try contactless or another card as workaround. Lidl accepts Visa Debit/Credit and contactless generally, so this points to a BIN-specific merchant policy, not MCC.
Looks like @Carlo1460 could be on the button here according to AI
Wise cards work at Lidl and Farm Foods (my local one) and other prepaid cards I have used there. Natwest Rooster card is kids prepaid and works there too.
AI is writing crap.
Wise canât figure out why. And agent seemed to be reading from a script asking if I activated the card, if I followed chip and PIN steps, if I used contactlessâŠ
I am going to try the card in an ATM and Sainsburys and see.
