Wiki: Current Account Switching Incentives 💸

You could always open Virgin and wait

Actually quite tempted by that idea :joy:

All being well, Nationwide will be more proactive than Virgin ever were about merging operations. Ye olde Northern Rock and Virgin Essentials current accounts never became Virgin Money despite them saying early on that they’d CASS everything onto one system.

My money is on Nationwide moving to the Virgin current account platform in relatively short order (much as Yorkshire and Clydesdale became what was then B).

Well they do say pride comes before a fall, applied last night and apparently they can’t recognise me so I have to go to the branch with my ID. First appointment at my nearest branch was next Thursday, I intend to use my Barclaycard statement as ID.

In a Kafkaesque moment apparent you can’t use a Barclaycard statement as ID for a Barclays Bank Account. Any other credit card… fine… it seems they don’t even trust themselves

It has just increased my desire to take them for £175 and then disappear

This sounds about Barclays level of stupidity. Had so many problems with sensible things in the last 3 or 4 weeks I was with them

Funnily enough I had an email response to my complaint this morning offering £50. They claimed not to have changed anything on their end but suggested I had another go at applying, and lo and behold I now have a sole Flexaccount. They couldn’t see any reason why it might have been refused in the first place.

Of course I’ve missed the switching bonus by a matter of days. I’ll mention that in my reply and see where I get. At least I should get the Barclays bribe!

Had 30 days lapsed since you closed the previous?

Yes, it was mid May.

My Barclays opened instantly (though the app is clumsy and - if anything - less slick than Nationwide)

Lloyds ad on Facebook

Looks like 3 direct debits are needed now :face_with_monocle:

TSB just paid out for me (no text notification received).

New Co-op switching offer for their Everyday Extra packaged account:

I would update the wiki but don’t seem able to add new lines to the table on my phone.

They could offer £500 and I still wouldn’t let them anywhere near my details. Absolute garbage bank

I’m in France at the moment and was interested to see that switching bribes aren’t just a UK thing:

(SocGen, €90 bribe plus cost of subscription to packaged account reduced to €1)

Cards are terrible though. Lots of French cards still very conservative in design.

Barclays not doing well at all :flushed:

They had a bribe deal in November 2023 so presumably lots of people like me joined then and then realised how awful they are and left again
