Sad times

Question, which I’m not sure if I’ve found a solid answer.

If I use the switching service, for a bank that has my salary paid in, does the switch service or new bank tell the employer about the bank details change?

Changing mine as a contractor is an absolute chore, I would guess they will still pay into the details of current bank which redirects to new bank which is fine.

If I then also move new bank to another bank, does it go from bank A, to bank B, to redirect to bank C?

Or directly from A to C?

I’ve not heard of anything like that, as they don’t specifically know who is going to send you incoming payments, its not a standardised thing the same way a direct debit is. My understanding is the redirected payments would daisy chain and just get forwarded multiple times but it only does that for a limited time. Long term you’ll want to give people the updated account details.

Whenever I’ve switched banks, the next time any income is paid it’s taken care of by the CASS redirection but after that it gets paid directly to the new account, so the payer is notified of the new details.

I’ve actually seen payee bank details update before my eyes in Starling’s app when I’ve paid somebody who has switched.

Interesting, not heard of that before!

More of a chore to not get paid because you couldn’t be bothered to make sure you would.

I’m sure I’d manage a week apart, was more curious how it works.

A form, an email, a document, a signed document, and an email will sort it.

This is the official explanation of what happens from CASS:

ā€œThe Current Account Switch Service will redirect payments to your new account. Each time an electronic payment is redirected an automatic message is sent back to the originator advising them of the new account details so they can update their records.ā€

Help and support to make sure your current account switch goes smoothly.

It’s always worked fine for me. I’ve never updated any details manually, but they’ve always been updated by the system.

So, switch from fd to Starling completed today, employer likely won’t have known yet but I can see the pending inbound bacs payment in Starling.

Wouldn’t have thought that be possible this soon.

Ā£200 to Nationwide, 2 direct debits.

Can’t have had since 2021.

Ah what its specifically since 18th August 2021

And i opened mine on the 24th August 2021

 I started fresh with nationwide 7 months ago so hoping they don’t clock on, but probs will.

Is this offer for new customers only? Can’t find information about this…

No idea.

Can’t remember clearly, but I don’t think I got it last year.

It’ll say member for X years if you log onto the website. If it says X months you’ll have had a new customer number I think.

That’s at 7 months or so.

Shouldn’t matter so long as you’ve not had a switch bonus from them since August 2021. I’m switching into my existing account with them too. The Ā£100 earlier in the year doesn’t count as it wasn’t a switch bonus.

Hi guys just wondering if anyone has came across this… never had this issue before. My switch was due to finish today but nothing transferred over. Spoke to new bank who said it’s still pending & old bank didn’t send over the details for the switch. Spoke to old bank & gave them the switch ref number and they can’t find the switch… can’t initiate new switch as it’s still pending. Don’t know whether to cancel switch and try again?
