Wiki: Current Account Switching Incentives šŸ’ø

Applied. Likely be rejected like NatWest did, least I got the card though and not seen any credit check :joy:

Set up with FD. What a faff! Do people really prefer this to the Starling/Monzo ways?

None of the letters mention an account number/sort code. Figured it might be with another letter. Didn’t read the letter properly that says they are on the back of a card!

Set up a password, let BitWarden pick it, secure and all that. Then when I log in, I get ā€œplease give the 3rd, 5th and 7th letterā€ which obviously I have no idea about. Which then means I’m trying to get to the password, but it wants to just enter the whole thing in the ā€œmemorable answerā€ box.

Pick a security question. Answer. Then another one. Then a third for luck.

Email me a code. Text me a code.

Anyway, I’ve put Ā£1 to test it in until I get paid and can do the Ā£1,000.

Interestingly, I tried to go back to a non Fintech bank last year and it was quite surprising just how easy the whole MonzolingChaseoult thing really is.

Sidenote: Natwest seem to have been the closest but still not quite there for me

RBS have stretched the rejection criteria to people who’ve had switching bonuses all the way back to 2017 :sob:

No, I don’t think anyone would claim that about FD these days. They reigned in the days before Starling and Monzo. I value them only for their ability to pay in cheques via the app and coins via an automated sorting machine now.

Although in fairness, you sound like you’re almost at the point where you can switch on Face ID and won’t need to use routinely any of the stuff you’ve just created.

Yup! Lets see what happens when I switch phones on Friday.

Make sure it’s made out of Bakelite and has a rotary dial, I’ve heard FD work’s best on those…

Are RBS rejecting people opening accounts full stop if they’ve had a switching bonus since 2017, or they are just not eligble for the bonus?

I like the FD app, very clean, and once they’ve launched budgets, insights and spend notifications, along with having home screen balance as actual not available, I’d be happy.

Wait, tread carefully, else the legacy bank may strike again.

Last time I switched phones with FD, I made the mistake of not deactivating the app on my old phone before wiping it. That meant I couldn’t activate the app on my new phone without a phone call to FD (which, to be fair to them, was fairly painless, but still…)

They are a breeze to deal over the phone as I did the same.

Got my FD money yesterday- 1 week after the switch happened. They included the money moved in the switch in the £1000 requirement

So im making progress taking advantage of a few switching offers. Its also been quite insightful to see the current service and customer experience some of them provide. So far my experience has gone like this:

Switched from ā€œspareā€ starling account that i never used over to halifax reward account. To qualify i set up an ebay funding direct debit and paypal funding direct debit with starling beforehand. Easy switchover, Ā£150 paid into halifax very quickly. Halifax app actually seems quite good, easy to navigate and no need for additional card reader devices.

As soon as i got the £150 from halifax I initiated a switch over to Nationwide (but not before setting up an instant access saver with nationwide to bump the reward up to £125). Again switchover was pretty quick (and halifax didnt charge me the £3 monthly fee for the reward account before it was closed) and the £125 was paid the day after the switchover. Nationwide online banking feels like its from the early 2000s though the app is a little better. Frustrstingly you need a card reader for certain things including when i transferred the reward money over to a payee i already had setup (why!).

I’ve initated a switch from nationwide over to RBS, again the experience was fairly smooth though had to wait 24 hours before i could log into online banking or the app. Both the app and the online banking are (in my opinion) a mess, navigating is crazy, also theyve ordered another card reader, urrrrgggh. Will transfer over Ā£1250 shortly to qualify for the Ā£175 switch bonus though according to the Ts&Cs payment could be made UP to end of december - heres hoping its actually sooner.

A few other interesting points only Halifax and RBS did a credit check (i was sure not to request an overdraft for each). Halifax allows you to easily set up additional current accounts with ease online and they dont run a credit check on those (so ive still got a separate account with them now). Fortunately my credit score has o ly gone down a smidge and just switching rates woth our current mortgage provider (HSBC) who dont run any new searches when you rate switch.

Will next look at Santander possibly or see what other deals are out there once the reward from RBS has been sent.

All banks will run a credit check for a brand new customer for a current account (not a basic account). They’ll be a search on one of the files, or it’s not been updated their end yet.

Halifax/Lloyds will allow you to open further accounts if you have one already without another search

New £150 offer at Lloyds with some of the easiest conditions to fulfil.

Oooh, that looks like that will be my next one then after I’ve finished with FD.

You won’t qualify for the offer if:

You are switching to any other Lloyds Bank current account that isn’t named above.
You’ve received cashback for switching to us since April 2020.
You start your switch after the 14th November 2022.

I just switched out of Lloyds
Back to Lloyds it is

Nice! My last bribe from them was before April 2020.

Pays out £150 in ten working days

I chose to the six extra Vue tickets last time

TSB → Lloyds switch initiated. Sort of a rerun of 1999, in a way.
