Why the neglect for joint account customers?

Fair point - I had never really thought about this - we have a solo account each that is not used. Wonder why that is? Never had to do this anywhere else.

maybe get their stats up

That’s like saying “Monzo JAs have overdrafts, you just need to login your Barclays Bank app and set one up”

Not really. It’s more like saying that people who have a JA have access to an overdraft, just set it up on your solo account.

For clarity, I’m not arguing that Monzo are right, here. Just that everything which is not available on JAs is available, just not on JAs.

Not entirely true. Me and my partner don’t have access to overdrafts on our personal account due to ‘lack of activity’ which is because we only use our joint account.

There’s a remedy for that.

No I like my comparison more :stuck_out_tongue:

If you’ve got to switch to a different current account to access features, it’s no different than switch to a different banking app really

Although I appreciate that joint account holders have their own personal accounts and they can have overdrafts, if the transactions are mostly made via the joint account, the personal account overdraft facility doesn’t really help if your joint account balance goes into the red.

I would love this. It’s why we are stuck with Nat West. One account is so much simpler so we are not constantly having to work out who owes what. I need a joint overdraft to move everything to Monzo.

Its interesting that starling also don’t offer JA overdrafts.

I’m also not convinced by people saying you don’t need an overdraft just budget better or switch cash around, my bank really needs to be making it easier not putting up barriers.

I think there are a lot of potential JA customers out there and one bonus monzo has is the marked joint account debit card so you don’t mix up cards.

It doesn’t but thankfully you get notifications in advance when you don’t have enough and again when any payments fail. Then in addition to both of these you get the option to retry as well.

I wouldn’t mind one but I’ve come to realise I don’t really need one. Especially when I can top up my JA with just a tap too.

Exactly the point I was going to make. It’s a mute point that personal accounts have overdrafts if you’re only using JA and you’re transactions are being made in JA.

Oh my favourite topic - joint account parity!

Yes please. I want Monzo Plus. I want a damn sexy metal card. I want IFTTT.

I’ve been assured that some of the senior folks at Monzo exclusively use their joint account, so these things are on the radar.

I guess the percentage of customer using the JA are fairly small, so this will always take a back seat to other features that benefit sole users.

When JAs get some love, I’ll be so damn excited! :star_struck:

Reason I came over to Monzo from revolut was due to their JA facility too.
But yes I agree IFTTT has not worked either on my joint pots. I don’t use my personal.
I have set up the 1 p savings challenge but a bit annoying it’s on my personal account only.

But would more users apply for a JA if it offered matching benefits? The reason my OH won’t go for it is lack of overdraft so we don’t apply.

I feel that monzo is maybe aimed at a younger audience but sorting out the JA would offer up a broader product and maybe diversify monzos reach. Can’t be a bad thing

You definitely don’t have to convince me. That’s a great point. “Built it and they will come!”

Thankfully most of the core features are there (assuming you don’t need an overdraft) so it’s still a great experience vs. legacy banks.

But I agree; they could and should do more to reinforce the account as a solid choice for couples, as well as expanding their market to a new older/married demographic.

I want the joint metal card too. It would complete my financial life. Probably hotter than an Amex centurion.

Once again I find myself baffled by the insistence on overdraft facilities.
