As I said, sometimes it’s not optional, for example in a recent trip through Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and parts of Northern India I found hardly anywhere that took cards, even some regional banks didn’t have access to all the networks. It was odd that American Express sometimes worked where Visa and Mastercard didn’t. I’ve had similar experiences in some countries in Africa, nothing’s any good but cash.
