What's so special about M—?

lol Im just using the Nationwide site on charges for foreign card transaction fees - maybe you have a flex one cash card or flex one visa debit card which only earns 1% interest but doesn’t have foreign transaction fees - Im just reading what the Nationwide site says

Hahaha. I am too. Go to the link you provided above, ie.
http://www.nationwide.co.uk/support/travel/fees-charges#tab:Feesandcharges
then clear selection and just tick the Flexplus debit card.

I think we might be talking at cross purposes, if you look up, I’m referring to cash withdrawals, not purchases.

lol well good luck with that - I know what Mondo charges

yes you might be right - Mondo charges nothing for either - but hey lol lets start again about what makes Mondo different from other cards

I use Mondo for the app, I’m not really a cash person anymore but if I need it I use my normal bank.

yes we do use our cards differently - I very rarely carry much cash with me on holiday _ I would find that quite risky - only to cover a few beers or a meal where the cafe/bar/ restaurant owner doesn’t accept cards and prefers cash for some reason  I have used Halifax CC for a while but now use my Mondo card exclusively where possible - each to their own

I hope M— turns out to be another great alternative but I’ll wait until they have a banking licence and offer FSCS compensation. Until then, for me, Cashplus wins because sums on deposit are protected. In the meantime, I’ll certainly be adding my M— card to my “£500” collection which I carry when travelling.

Yup, it depends on your travel, outside of big cities I find it’s often impossible to function without large quantities of cash.

its a trade off I suppose - carrying large quantities of cash as opposed to having the risk of Mondo not honouring its guarantees - depending on your risk appetite

I’m with Nationwide And have FlexPlus. It costs £10 per month and charges 2% on foreign purchases. Only cash withdrawals are fee free.

I’ve been with Nationwide for 23 years so I’d love to know how you got the account for free.

If you’re travelling extensively in Africa, Latin America or Asia, outside of the cities and in many of the smaller businesses such as restaurants, they’re unlikely to accept cards. I gather that’s a problem in Greece at the mo. too.

I’m afraid I don’t remember, possibly it was offered as part of my mortgage package yonks ago. I’d give them a call and ask if there’s a way to qualify. I’d pay anyway if I wasn’t getting it for free, as the insurance is worthwhile, having had to make a couple of claims in the last few years.

yep - I agree sometimes there is a necessity for cash - with its inherent risks of carrying it on you or storing it in your hotel room

As I said, sometimes it’s not optional, for example in a recent trip through Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and parts of Northern India I found hardly anywhere that took cards, even some regional banks didn’t have access to all the networks. It was odd that American Express sometimes worked where Visa and Mastercard didn’t. I’ve had similar experiences in some countries in Africa, nothing’s any good but cash.

no I totally agree - cash is the only way in remote places - have I mentioned the card glows in ultra violet light - unlike other cards

I really like the colour and I also voted for Banky McBankFace, especially as M— already own the domain name. :stuck_out_tongue:
