What password manager does everyone use?

What is it with LastPass and security breaches? I remember them having a major breach before, and wanted to say that to my view LastPass are saying “Remember that huge security breach we had? We’ve learned nothing from it.”

Only, when I went to Google to verify my recollection before posting, I found that their Wikipedia page has the following in the contents:

lastpass

It doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in their product.

I used 1Password for years from when it was primarily a Mac application. I used it on Windows, too, but found it clunky and difficult to use. When I moved to 1Password 8, it immediately reminded me of how bad 1Password was on Windows to begin with. For me (and many others if their community forums and Reddit are anything to go by) it’s a real step backwards.

I tried BitWarden after I saw more and more techies and privacy folk singing its praises. It’s open source - you can examine the source code on GitHub and it’s simple to use. The interface isn’t as polished as 1Password but for me, at least, it just works.

You can also get it to work with just about any type of login if you know some HTML. One of the sites I use has a multi-step login over a couple of pages, including TOTP. I never could get 1Password to work with it, but BitWarden has no issues now that I’ve identified the field names and created custom field entries in BitWarden.

For me, it was cost. I didn’t want to pay to use one and I also couldn’t be bothered testing loads.

It does what I need it to do

BitWarden is simple, efficient, and works great with chrome/android, plus it’s free.

First ever password manager and dno why I never had one before.

I’ve been using the same 3 passwords since 2008 :upside_down_face::joy:

Has anyone who migrated from 1Password to Bitwarden migrated a 1Password Families account, or just individual accounts? How is a Families account migration accomplished?

How did you know?

Got BitWarden just in time

Just FYI Bitwarden works with multiple devices and does so just as seamlessly as any other password manager. It also supports multiple vaults within an account. Of course use what works for you, but just a heads up that BW can do all the same things.

Had been meaning to do so for a while, but after yet another LastPass data breach, finally got around to migrating to BitWarden today. (Also didn’t like the idea of various trackers that LastPass uses)

BitWarden is also completely free, and seems to be as good as any other password manager.

For anyone familiar with BitWarden, do you know how I can set a default autofill login though? e.g. I have several Stripe accounts, how do I default it fill in the one I use the most, rather than the one that is first alphabetically? Sorry if this is a stupid question…

Yep you can add multiple URLs to login details so they appear on any app or website you need :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

If you’re using the auto fill feature (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + L) it remembers the last account you used.

Command + / works for whatever we use at work. Not sure what it is as never actually need to enter any  pre fills though.

Thanks, good to know. I think it must be per device rather than per login, as it didn’t remember going from Mac to iPhone

Yep it’s on the device itself. Might even be on the browser too… not really sure how it works tbh

Bitwarden have now integrated with Fastmail to generate Fastmail masked email addresses. It’s not quite as smooth as the username generation in 1Password but it’s close enough and is the nail in the coffin for 1Password for me.

I wish they would add the username generator to the app. Hardly use a desktop

+1 for Bitwarden - I migrated from LastPass when they restricted access to just one device type, desktop PC or mobile device.

Been very happy with Bitwarden last 24 months or so.

Same.

I even pay for premium now which I never did with LastPass or even considered doing with BitWarden but it’s sooooooooooo worth it.

What are the benefits of the premium? Useful at all?

I mainly use it for auto-filling 2FA codes and at $10 a year just that alone is worth it :exploding_head:
