We’ve been working on the new account selector in the past few weeks and we’re ready to share some of the progress with you
Quick refresher on how we got here…
We heard your feedback from previous New Navigation builds that the “View All” button was clunky and difficult to use. That Pots are too hidden in a different screen. Also switching between personal and joint account feels like a broken experience.
We knew we wouldn’t learn anything new until we solved these problems, and all of this was hinging on the new account selector. This was just over a month ago. At that point we stopped giving the new nav to more customers, and pushed towards our new milestone of delivering the new account selector. You can read more about our learnings in my previous post here.
Fast forward to today, the new account selector is ready for you to try
What’s new
- You can now horizontally swipe between your accounts and pots in your Home screen. All your details are shown in context. For example swiping to a pot shows your pot balance, your goal progress, your pot actions, and the Drawer shows your pot details.
- You can see the Accounts screen by tapping “view all” to see your aggregate position with all your pots and accounts. This vertical list will in time be the same as swiping horizontally in your Home screen. In the short term there might be some differences.
- Tapping a card or a pot in the Accounts screen takes you to that item on your Home screen.
- Eventually the “view all” button will be phased out and we might replace it with something else (like a chevron at the top). For now it’s still there for both clients, but Android users can already pull/drag the card to access their Accounts screen. iOS will have this later.
Known issues
No support for joint accounts. We’re adding this soon but for now we’re focusing just on users with personal accounts. More on this at the bottom of this post.
When you swipe between your accounts and pots the Drawer takes time to load. We’ll add pre-fetching of content soon.
If you tap a card in the Accounts screen and you left the Drawer half open in the Home screen the card will animate behind the drawer. Fix coming soon.
Cards and pots missing shadows, we know sometimes it’s hard to tell where the edges end.
- Naturally there are many other bugs.
Areas we would love feedback on
Performance. Does the app feel responsive? (compared with other mainstream apps in your device)
Swiping on the Home screen. Does it feel natural to change between your pots and accounts? Is the animation smooth, does it always capture your intent, etc.
Accessing the Accounts screen. What do you think of the gesture of pulling the card to access Accounts? Do you find this easy/natural to do?
Do you find it easy to see all your information in the Accounts screen? What about pot goals and progress bars? Do you know how much money you have?
The Drawer (the component with your transactions that you can drag up and down), does it animate correctly? Does it move in a weird way sometimes?
Is all your information correct? Balances in different places, goals, etc. Even after swiping.
Is there anything you could do before and now you can’t?
Customer rollout
For the new account selector you need both v2.53 and the new nav feature flag enabled.
- iOS/Android version 2.53 ships to the store today.
- The New Navigation feature flag will be in Monzo Labs for all customers! (today/tomorrow)
- At the same time we’ll start giving the new nav to a small group of new/existing customers as part of our user experiments. Until now we had only done this with new customers.
- If you already have the new nav enabled, you’ll just get the updated experience when you update to 2.53.
- Joint account, business, and US customers with rollout restrictions, see below.
Joint Accounts
If you’ve got a joint account you won’t see the option in Labs. I know the new account selector was built partly to improve the joint account switcher, and this is our priority this week. There’s a lot of side effects in different parts of the app when switching between your personal and joint account (payments tab, help, etc) and we need to fix those first. We prioritised giving the account selector just to folks without joint accounts first.
I expect the new account selector will be compatible with JA around the 8th July. This is approximate, can def change.
+
Business account users and US customers will always be served the old navigation, even if they had the new nav before. And the option won’t be in Labs. We’ll get to this eventually
Thanks everyone for your patience, looking forward to hear your feedback on the updated experience!!
