Hi everyone I’m Rebekah, a Product Manager at Monzo.
From today, we’re starting to roll out something new in our app navigation (at the bottom of the home screen). The new Grow tab gives you a single view of your savings, investments, pension and home equity.
We’ve learned from research that Monzo customers often categorise their money into two groups: the “now” money (for daily spending) and “future” money (saving for the medium/long-term).
The Grow tab lets us simplify the app Home screen, keeping it focused on your day-to-day spending, with visibility of your longer term finances, and overall net worth, a tap away.
This is a first step in the longer term vision for the Grow tab. Future improvements could include things like contextual hints, educational support and longer-term financial planning. You’ll have to watch this space to see what we’ve got up our sleeves next.
What about Trends?
As Trends applies to your more immediate budget, we’ve moved it to the Home screen where your day-to-day spending lives.
If you can’t see the Grow tab in your app yet, don’t worry! We’re rolling it out slowly over the next couple of months to allow for as much testing and learning as we can get.
We want your feedback
We’ve got plans to keep investing in the Grow tab. Let us know what you think and what you’d like to see.
Noticed this today, nice implementation, though this could have been made more practical by moving Pots, Trends and Cashback etc inside to remove all the clutter from the Home Screen full stop.
I may be in the minority but I don’t use Monzo for any savings or investments so now I’ll have an icon on the tab bar that isn’t of any use Any chance of allowing users to remove it or swap back to Trends (or another option)?
I use Monzo for everything, the only exception being savings and investments. I agree with you that there should be a choice as to what shows on the home tab, as I use trends daily and would never use this ‘grow’ button.
Monzo are not fans of customisation though; it’s one size fits all, as demonstrated by their insistence on overloading the home screen with everything.
Applying this logic to the Home Screen, I wouldn’t class ‘credit insights’ and ‘insurance’ as being part of my immediate budget, so why can’t I remove them?
As a user of Barclay’s flawed ‘Wealth Hub’, could I request the ability to add non-Monzo balances, even if via a manual entry rather than Open Banking? Would love the ability to see net worth grow over time and capture workplace pensions, non-Monzo S&S ISAs, etc.
The only way to remove most of the stuff from the homepage is not to use it. Ironically the less I use Monzo the more appealing the homepage looks as it’s not cluttered with extra widgets and services.
