Same for me on Ryanair - contactless nope but chip and pin no issue.
I see what you are saying, in that case I agree. I wasn’t sure if you were using can for permission or can for ability
In terms of ‘they can’t not accept all MC debit cards’ where it’s can for permission - yes you are right, they should accept all MC cards equally.
I’m flying with TUI in just over a week so will happily give it a go with my Plus Card
The lovely TUI have been in touch and we are sadly postponed to June but will still try it on board when we do eventually fly
Whaaa? Was this some sort of deal? I’ve never heard of TUI postponing a booked holiday on dates before. At least it should be Warmer!
Hotel was due to open for season on 1st May but is now 1st June and we were offered full refund or rebook. So it might be a touch warmer but the place we are going is pretty steady all year round
Last year I flew out with Jet2 and used Monzo just fine, just tapped the card and payment was taken.
I still think there’s an element of depending on who you get here
On a recent Jet2 flight a passenger’s card wouldn’t work on Apple Pay, and was told the same.
She had a window seat, and the physical card was in the overhead luggage, so she got free food.
Well i can confirm that my Monzo Plus card worked fine contactless on our Tui flight to Porto Santo this morning and another chap on the plane used his hot coral card with no issue.
They did announce on the flight that they dont take Revolut or any pre-paid cards
Enjoy your holiday!
Mine too, I have to insert it into the Machine with Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2, and BA. I think the cabin crew just don’t like the wait when you insert it and input your code.
Well I’ve just landed in Portugal via a TUI flight where they blank refused Monzo cards for card payments (and they also said they were cashless so good job I had another bank card with me). They also announced it over the PA system before they sent the bar down the aisle!
This has to be personal to the attendants vs company policy as I’ve definitely used Monzo without hitch before.
Was fine on a recent flight to Porto Santo Island, which is portuguese, and myself and others on the flight used Monzo with no problem on outward and return flights. They did point blank refuse to accept Revolut or other preppaid cards
I forgot to update here after my holiday. I used both personal and joint card on my flight with no issues.
There was no announcement to say they’re not supported either. It certainly seems like outdated knowledge and not consitent across all flights.
I’d suggest just tapping quickly so that they don’t see it or politely suggesting that it is tried anyway. Better still, just use Google or Apple Pay to avoid all drama.
In the days of Monzo this is what I did and it always worked.
I recently flew with Jet2 and had the same problem with contactless and had to use chip and pin. Another person I flew with has a first direct card and also had the same issue with contactless and had to do chip and pin
I think this is a MasterCard issue.
The last time I flew with them they said that MasterCard cards would only work using chip & PIN - Apple/Google Pay MasterCard cards didn’t work either.
What’s strange is that with TUI and Monzo I’ve never had an issue. And stranger still is on the last time I went abroad with Ryanair, they were asking anyone with VISA to do Chip and Pin but Mastercard worked fine contactless.
I’m out with TUI again next week, I’ll see if the VISA card works just fine.
Both my HSBC Visa and the Wife’s Santander Mastercard worked just fine.
They (TUI) stated no Revoult or “ Monza” would be accepted however.
I definitely used Monzo fine last time I flew with them in 2021 so either it changed or they say they won’t but when you present a card take it anyway.
