Some ATMs in the US still read the magnetic stripe on the rear of a card, rather than the chip.
Unfortunately for us Mondonauts, Mondo’s mag stripe isn’t currently enabled for use in these ATMs so that might be why you’re having trouble! Hope this helps!
Using UK cards in the US has always been problematic for me. Most ATMs are fine, M&T bank wouldn’t spit any money out using my major UK bank cards. So it can be hit and miss.
Most of of the time asking to run the card as a credit card works fine (even though it’s not actually a credit card).
Normally when selecting card type a prepaid card is treated like a credit card rather than checking/debit card or savings card. However I agree with warriner, it is most likely down to the machines checking magstripe rather than chip. The USA is a technicologically backward nation and it is only a few months back they were still manually making impressions of cards onto paper slips. Europe with chip and pin and EMV specs is lightyears ahead of the US when it comes to banking

I bet that’s it. These were pretty old looking machines (the kind you can buy off-the-shelf for hotels and mobile venues). The ones by Bank of America et al have so far worked fine.
The best way to check if an ATM will work is to put your card in. If it asks you to remove the card before entering your pin then it is a Magstripe ATM and won’t work with Mondo

Unfortunately that’s not fool-proof.
The BoA ATM I used recently was a “remove before PIN”, and it worked fine.
