Unfortunate fail

Firstly, I’d just like to apologise for this - we have got it wrong and we are disabling this now.
From what I understand, the service that applied this change was written a while back and didn’t predict the confluence of Easter and April Fools on the same day - hence the choice of a ghost to indicate surprise.

Once again, we’re really sorry about the misstep here and any offence caused. Thank you so much for bringing it to our attention

And that is the perfect response

Thank you

Hugh always responds with well worded replies, perhaps we need to clone him.

I hope this doesn’t stop changes in emojis for certain days moving forward it’s a nice touch! I guess they just need to be thought about a bit more

Totally agree, it’s a nice touch. I thought it was hilarious at first as a totally inappropriate mistake before I realised it was deliberate. Mistakes happen and as usual they have responded wonderfully.
Little things like the icons add personality, don’t ever want to loose that

Agreed :ok_hand:t3:

April fools ended at midday, so I’ve turned this off!

Thanks all for letting us know.

Good response but I’m quite disappointed that support & engineering time had to be wasted on this. Would be better if the offended people (if any) would just grow a thicker skin. There is much worse out there than an innocent emoji which was actually planned for April fools.

You sound really heartless.

It’s called respect for others. It doesn’t cost anything and means others are more likely to respect you

Great point well made.

Maybe, but as I said I’ve stated my opinion and I am quite saddened that nowadays no matter what you do there will be always be a (very vocal) minority that will get offended. In any case the matter has been resolved by :mondo: so let’s leave it at that and call it a day - happy Easter everyone! :rabbit:

Your telling us to leave it and call it a day. Is that not what YOU should of done in the first place? I love when people try to turn things like it was not them that started it in the first place.

And now I know it’s Sunday

One thing I do know is no matter how hard you try not to offend someone, you will still end up offending somewhere down the line. That’s just how it is.

There is only so much you can do to try and cover off every event.

I somewhat agree with you, but then when I made my original post the feature was still active, and I was pushing back against disabling it; however Monzo has now done the choice and disabled it so I feel there’s no need to discuss this further, whether you agree or disagree. :+1:

that was particularly the case decades ago, but now with the internet and Google it is fairly quick and easy to check major religious or national holidays

Surely you must of known you was on to a bad thing as the first time you tried to voice the same opinion you was flagged but then you tried it again? Really? Anyway it’s all good.

You can offend people in many ways not just religious or holidays.

It was flagged? I disagreed but didn’t think it was a flagable offence by a long shot
