Hi @Ozi & welcome
Is the Monzo app already installed on his Android device?
You have to download/install the app on the child device and then generate the QR code on the adult device and scan that QR code using the child device.

Yup all installed. The camera app is it seems only copying the link not acting on it
Android phone
Stupid question - when the camera scans the QR code (and can validate it), a truncated URL is superimposed over the QR image - are you tapping on this URL?
Yup it was simply copying it to clipboard.
I just logged in using his email on the Monzo app all working now.
Thanks for the feedback - good to hear it’s all working
@johnyorke, for reference for your Android colleagues, this was also an issue for both of my children. The photos app shows a truncated version of the URL it has scanned, with the monzo://
scheme, but when we click on it, the action is intercepted as a search intent within the camera app.
Screenshot (trimmed to hide most of the tokens):
It seems the Monzo app hasn’t told the OS it can handle monzo://
links.
My daughter signed in with the email option. My son tried to navigate the sign-in options himself, told the app he was a new customer, gave it his email address… and now although it won’t let him get any further because he’s under 16, it also won’t let me invite him via email, because “A user already exists with this email”.
It’s a proper Catch-22. I can’t add him, but he can’t get in to the app either to use the help service to request deletion of his unverified account.
Hey @Hatchling6802, welcome to the community and thanks for your detailed post!
We’ve had a tonne of feedback about QR login. And whilst it works for most people, it’s quite easy for it to go a bit wrong.
We’re aware of a few limitations:
These are all specific issues that we will be addressing soon, so stay tuned
In the meantime, if anyone has any children stuck in the claimed email limbo, feel free to DM me and we can get it figured out
Hi John,
I’m stuck in this loop so please do let me know how I can resolve this
Thanks
Yep exactly the same (times two) with my kids.
I also have opened two accounts for my kids and the cards have arrived today. We are all sat here with the cards, faffing about with QR codes which aren’t working and emails addresses. I have the two cards which I have beeped to activate the cards. The QR codes aren’t working. They just take to you a Google. And all the Google page says is open an account with Monzo. They can’t open an account as they aren’t 16!!! They both had Chase cards - which now I’m starting to regret just keeping!!! How can simple instructions not be working? Talk about faff!
@johnyorke can u give us technophobes a hand with how we can DM you? Had a fiddle around with the all the buttons etc and no idea how to send a DM on this platform.
Not sure who needs to see this, I just had this same issue with my daughters android phones .I downloaded top rated QR readers on both and it worked flawlessly on both. Was able to continue the under 16 set up after this.
No I don’t come onto the community very often and I misread what the offering was but there is no need to be rude.
We’ve decided not to use monzo for the kids as we wanted them have their own account numbers. They now have Santander accounts.
Same here, QR code not generating, both Android phones. Can’t go any further. Got a generic response from help chat through the app.
@johnyorke also having issues with QR codes, email address and DMing you. Please help!
Hey Lisa,
If you click on my name you should see a message button. That will start a new private for us. Admittedly it’s not very clear!
Hey Kaya,
Do you see a Message
button when you click on my name? If so you can use that.
I can’t see a message button. Maybe you could message first?
You can’t send a private message because you haven’t achieved the required level of trust (a systematic thing with the forum structure - nowhere near a personal comment!). I can see a message button on your profile though, so I suspect @johnyorke can also see the same message button & get in touch with you privately.
