Under 16 QR code not working

I have opened two under 16 accounts for my kids but the qr codes don’t work. I’ve contacted supported but had no response yet.
Also how do I find out the account numbers for them?

Unsure about the QR codes but they don’t have account numbers.

Do the kids have the Monzo app installed on their phones (prior to them scanning the QR code on your device)?

I didn’t realise they didnt get account numbers! How are people supposed to pay money into the account?

Yeah they have it installed, we’ve had to log in using email addresses which was a bit of a faff

I don’t have kids myself but I believe there’s going to be a way for folks to give money via the Monzo.me service.

You need to move it in to their Pot from your account.

Seems to be a bit of a faff especially when other children’s accounts have account numbers

Use one of those services then :man_shrugging:

You have to have an account with them to open a kids account and I don’t want to open another account

ah so what you are saying is the other services are even more of a faff :+1:

If your kids are 11 and above, consider Nationwide FlexOne account. That’s what my daughter opened, as we wanted an actual account, with sort code and account number.

I am also a Nationwide customer, however, this did not seem to be a prerequisite for applying for a child account, unlike some of the High Street banks.

Monzo’s offering didn’t sound any different to her HyperJar account, or her Revolut one, in that money has to go via a single parent.

Was no point getting another one like that, so I passed, on this occasion.

You need to be there when they’re opening an under 16 account, but you don’t need to be a Nationwide account holder yourself. Unlike Monzo, it pays interest too.

Depends on the age. My daughter applied online, using her passport as identification. I was sat with her, but not needed tbh

I’ll look into the other options I’m disappointed there is no account number as I was hoping it would just change to a normal monzo when she turned 16

The Nationwide one changes automatically into a normal account at age 23 but you can do that from age 18. It’s better to stay in the junior account to 23 as it pays interest and doesn’t change for overseas use.

I take it that you didn’t read any of the posts from Monzo in the main launch thread for this product, as it was clearly laid out how this “account” works, and that it was merely a “pot” within an adult account.

Would have saved you time and faff then, by not applying :pensive:

Were there no T&C’s offered in the sign up process that explained how the kids card worked?

I didn’t apply, so don’t know what was and wasn’t explained during the sign up process :man_shrugging:

Wow, a lot of unhelpful snark in here.
It was a good question, and good to have a discussion around.
I’m excited for u16s accounts, but there are a bunch of features missing at the moment. The ones mentioned, and linking to joint accounts are my biggest

Hey @Picklepuppy

I’m an iOS engineer on the Under 16 squad. Curious to hear a bit more about your QR login experience.

Like @davidwalton suggested, as long as the device your children are using have the latest version of Monzo installed (but not signed into any account) then it should just start the login flow.

Are you on iOS or Android? Any other details or error messages you see would be very useful (obviously with no personal information included!).

Thanks!

John

Trying with my son. He is on android and camera app scans code generated link, but clicking on it did not open Monzo app. Tried pasting it into chrome but no luck.
Any possible solutions
