TSB chat

It’s a shame really. I wanted to like TSB, but their customer service saw to it that I’d never touch them again. They also have a nice looking and pretty decent application.

At least this way That Spanish Bank still has meaning.

Yep. Santander is much preferred to Barclays imo. Barclays were a bit useless when I had them as my current account

Would make Santander a much bigger deal in the UK

Santander UK said the TSB deal would make it the third largest UK bank in terms of personal current account deposits, behind Lloyds and Natwest.

I thought that the Nationwide/Virgin merger took them above NatWest for personal deposits?

I have a mortgage with them. The mortgage advisors and customer service were really nice

TSB press release here, along with a document from Sabadell

From the document it looks like Santander won’t be using TSB’s platform (not that Santander’s is much better)?

IT platform is not included. Operational continuity is guaranteed through the use of
current IT platform until migration

Watch Santander CFO Says TSB Brand Has a ‘Lot of Value’ - Bloomberg https://share.google/ti4RNnwXGWu9Fxzvf

Surely he means the assets rather than the actual brand? I can’t see Santander keeping TSB separate.

No, I think he’s referring to the brand, but it’s all marketing speak and I don’t believe him for a minute.

When Santander first wanted to take over the Abbey National they “promised” to keep the Abbey Brand because it was well recognised as a valuable name in Britain, but they still ditched it as soon as the takeover was complete. They’ve binned every other brand they’ve taken over and TSB will also bite the dust.

Well, they’ve kept Cater Allen and cahoot, for reasons…

I have received the email

One of the nearest bank branches to me is a TSB. There used to be a Santander across the road, but it closed recently.

I wonder if the TSB branch will survive?

That’s almost exactly what’s happened in the larger town down the road from me. There’s only a Natwest and TSB left now.

Strangely the TSB is the largest of all the branches former or current.

Wrexham seems to still have all banks, mostly modernised within the last few years too, including TSB which feels like it’s been there forever.

Same in my town, except NatWest recently closed however we still have Nationwide. Whenever I’ve been in the TSB branch there’s been no one in there, so who knows what will happen :man_shrugging:

The thing about all of this is, it’s fine until it isn’t and you actually have no choice but to go to branch. Which is what happened to me when I was with TSB.

There was no way to close the account except via a branch visit. I couldn’t just CASS it, because of their useless IT issues, I didn’t have the new card with the last five digits on to do so.

Luckily I worked in central Manchester at the time, they didn’t understand the concept of rural life and the fact you can’t just get a bus to the nearest branch.

Quick AI query shows Sabadell is selling TSB at a fairly good price premium

Santander is justifying this price mostly on cost savings so I guess one should expect more [overlapping] branch closures and staff redundancies.

Anyone had any luck getting TSB offers multiple times? Did a switch last February, held the account until last June, have since moved house as well so thinking that might increase my chances of getting this offer.
