Is there any update on the timeline for Irish IBANs?
I’ve seen mentions that it’s planned, but no clear dates or milestones.
Would be great to know if there’s a rough timeframe, even if it’s indicative only.
@Cian is your best best to answer this but be aware if you’re in, your in an early access version of Monzo. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not until launch that they launch IE IBANs
Hello!
Getting full SEPA bank transfers live (which will leverage Irish IBANs) is our top priority currently. Now that we are fully authorised as a bank we are working on this as quickly as we can. There is a lot of uncertainty and timelines can shift but our best guess is that this will start early testing during March. We know how important this is, and we’ll keep the community updated as we get closer to launch.
Thank you!
This is a brilliant question. If you view a bank statement the iBAN does show but might not be fully live and could possibly change. I’d love to have the IBAN working as it would be good to be able to receive payments from my employer but for the moment I’ll debit card it over - let’s hope nothing flags while doing that
What happens if you try adding the IBAN in the statement to another Irish bank account?
Hey @eneret I got invited today and immediately blocked due to “anti-fraud protection” — no explanation, and no way to chat to someone to correct this wrong.
I am an Italian citizen, but chose to use my Irish drivers license instead of my passport and very much regret that. Is there any way to reset the onboarding process so I can use my passport instead?
Tried adding mine to Revolut and got an error
If you’re not a citizen and resident in Ireland then they likely won’t let you onboard due to Irelands rules on holding Irish bank account, much like in the UK you can’t have a UK bank account without meeting certain criteria. even with an Irish document like a passport or drivers license unless you meet all the criteria they’ll likely flag and deny you the account. You might be better to wait until Monzo officially land in Italy.
Ah guess it’s not fully up and running yet then
@torbell I believe the support team has been in touch and have or will help you with that. For any specific questions regarding your account feel free to use: help@monzo.com
It’s normal for you to be able to see your IBAN on your bank statement. Until we have SEPA bank transfers live, you won’t be able to send money using it though.
This isn’t to do with iBans so I apologize for the off question but any plans to allow us to customize our monzo dot me link?
It would be nice to be able to choose a custom link alright ![]()
Actually that’s something I wanted to ask too!
Assuming the person lives in Ireland and is an Italian citizen; That’s not the way it’s supposed to work. In the EU, generally rules can’t discriminate between EU citizens, other than for very specific reasons like joining the army or being elected to parliament.
Banks can limit by residency of course - so only offer bank accounts to residents in Ireland. But then any EU citizen that resides in Ireland is entitled to the same service.
Just saying that because I think many non-Irish EU citizens living in Ireland (like me ;-)) would be particularly interested in Monzo seen the limited banking market here.
Yep, I got it sorted. I live in Ireland and am an Italian citizen. This issue was that I had a Monzo account from a different country that was never closed. Once closed, the support team was able to open the Irish account!
Did you not have to wait the 30 days to reopen another monzo account?
No, Support asked me to close the old account. I informed them that it was closed and they gave me the go ahead to proceed with the Irish account. If they had not intervened, I’m not sure how long it would have taken.
@eneret March is gettin closer
any further updates? ![]()
