The Monzo Current Account Preview

I’m guessing Apple Pay is something that will only be available sometime after the full launch of the current account?

It was moved to the Near Term - Next 3-6 Months list on the roadmap yesterday :tada:

Hi @anon50039658

One of the issues recently has been the problems with your third party card processor. Will Monzo be processing the card transactions directly with Mastercard for the early adopter current account please?

Thanks

Ooh I didn’t know this, I pledged but wasn’t successful but now it seems there are some perks. Fantastic.

This is covered by the blog post but it’s subtle

emphasis mine

A Mastercard® debit card, so you can spend anywhere that accepts Mastercard around the world, with a direct connection in to Mastercard

Monzo’s processor was handling the connection to MasterCard before the current accounts.

Daniel’s also mentioned that the current accounts are already running on Monzo’s processor, in the developer’s Slack channel.

Thanks @alexs good news and too subtle for me to spot!

Is there any update on whether the Current Account Switching Service ( CASS ) is will be ready in time for the preview, since Tom’s comments in January?

Tristan answered this in the distant past of this thread that is yesterday.

Was super excited to receive an invite to the current account rollout event but was gutted to see it clashes with a business trip I’ll be away for. Anyone know when the next one might be?

@anon50039658 I’ve received my invitation for Thursday :tada:, is it an issue if my iPhone is running iOS 11 dev beta?

@walderston If I didn’t have a clash and could make the event, that was going to be my question too!

apologies for a silly q but i’m assuming early investor take up of the none ‘investor’ branded cards is just for phase 1 and once launched we will be issued an ‘investor’ branded card? :stuck_out_tongue:

I can confirm that it works fine on iOS 11 Beta 3 outside of the same minor bugs from the regular Monzo app (mostly around uploading images to support).

That said, iOS 11 still isn’t officially supported by either us or Apple yet. We will take bug reports but there’s no guarantee of quick fixes during the iOS developer beta period.

thats fine… as long as I don’t miss out due to using iOS 11

Sharing is caring! Did you let them know you’ll not be able to make the event?

Indeed you will be entitled to a branded card; if you haven’t had a chance to look yet - the form states it quite clearly

By registering for the Current Account Preview, you won’t get an Investor debit card at this stage (because they’re not quite ready yet). You will be able to get one later this year.

thank you! I’m all signed up :muscle:

Yeah I’ve let them know. Fingers crossed for another roll out event soon :grinning:

Hey Louis! It’s all good! We love our investors. I think you may have jumped the gun a little bit here though!

This isn’t the launch of our full current account. We promised that investors would have early access to our full current account and we absolutely intend to honour that!

This is an early stage preview, an Alpha release, that we need to do in order to gather feedback and to test new functionality. It wouldn’t make sense to simply email investors, because not all of our investors will want to use the Alpha release in it’s current state and also some of them may not fit the criteria that we presently need. At this incredibly early stage, there’s a specific set of criteria that need to be filled in order for us to offer this build to anyone.

As mentioned in the blog post - a lot of functionality that will be present in the full current account release is currently missing - things like debit card top-ups, Monzo-to-Monzo payments, and monzo.me. Your transaction history from your prepaid account won’t be there and you’ll need to use a separate, current account specific app in the meantime. We also don’t have Investor cards ready yet and some folks will want to wait for them, or for some of these features.

This release isn’t for everyone. It’s for people who are happy to test things out, provide us detailed feedback if things go wrong, and help us get everything up to scratch. For logistical reasons, we also require that at this very early stage, users wishing to test this must have been a Monzo customer for 6 months, be a UK resident with most of their transactions in GBP, and be able to easily travel to our London office to attend this event.

We apologise if you feel misled, and I’m sure you know that we’re always happy to take constructive criticism on board, but it’s important that folks be clear about what this preview is, and also what it isn’t.
