Bliss. Nothing above 25 for 10 days.
I hear you. This last few days with heavy rain pour has been heaven for me. I even slept 9 hours through it.
Usually half that any other day if I’m lucky ![]()
Booking hotels for my parents to visit London from Jersey in December
These prices from Marriot hurt my eyes ![]()
It was like 25°c earlier this week and that felt cold! I remember when that would feel ‘hot’.
I really don’t understand why people stay right in the middle of London unless their employer is paying or they have the unlimited money hack. Especially because all of the attractions in London aren’t concentrated in one place anyway so you’ll need to be using the tube to get around.
Stay in zone 2 or 3 near a tube or railway station. There are some really cool neighbourhoods and you can be in Central London within 20 minutes.
Yesterday it was raining here in the West Midlands and I felt like I needed a jumper!
He’s been merging threads as you flagged them yesterday so not sure that online status is correct. ![]()
Mans been having some peace from us ![]()
That’s what Jo was asking chat about.
I mean you’re looking at the most expensive real estate in central London at high end hotels so of course they will be high!
Plenty of cheaper hotels around, even in central. Zone 2 is a gem with easy access if near a tube that most tourists don’t consider.
If you want slightly “nice” hotels then The Stratford is an Autograph Collection that is often £150 a night and well connected.

They also have a really nice Japanese restaurant on the 7th floor (I think) which I think is a hidden gem for the area: Kokin — Japanese Izakaya in Stratford, London | 古今
(They do a bottomless brunch at weekends with 3 courses and unlimited drinks for 90 mins for £65 or so - why I like this is that G&T is included which isn’t often the case).
If not an issue, basic Four Point Flex hotels pop up even in central for £120 or so a night.
Moxy has one in Piccadilly now which would be cheaper than County Hall but obviously not as nice.
If you’re not Marriott loyal then Canning Town has an Ibis, Premier Inn, Holiday Inn and Travelodge all fairly close to the station and we put family there often for £80 a night - bear in mind if there is anything on at the Excel or O2 this often goes high.
Pondering on hobbies that’ll help me get fit and don’t involve a standard gym.
Does anyone frequent an indoor climbing facility?
They do an intro session to help me understand what I need to, and then I can go solo. There’s also an LGBT night once a month at my local which would be good to make new friends and stuffs.
Any other activity types you folks get up to?
Usedto take my nieces who started when they were about 5 and 8. They absolutely loved it and apart from shoes and a chalk bag, both of which could be hired, no specialist equipment was needed. (At their age we kept hiring the shoes as their feet grew faster than they wore them out but presumably you won’t have that problem.) It was great exercise and they could climb with other kids their age with a coach then mix with other age groups. Great workout for them too.
That was climbing walls, bouldering may be a bit different I’m not sure. Edit - looks very similar from the photos on that website.
What about padel? That seems to be all the rage these days!
Mate I wouldn’t run for a bus never mind a ball.
^^
That’s a lie. You’ve been chasing balls for years
You don’t get fit if you don’t start!
I have never chased either ![]()
One of my mates plays it, I’ll see if I can go watch one day ![]()
It’s intense, but you sound like you want to meet people too, and I think it’s usually doubles and I’m sure there’s going to be “buddy-up” nights so you can meet people.
I have a Peloton bike which I love, but you sound like you want something more social than a bike at home on your own.
Full of trendies. Urgh. Until the next fad.
Although I’m with @Carlo1460 on running after things anyway.
