But I do think it was a bit cheeky for Monzo to use a recording of all the Monzo iOS app users moaning as the Android notification sound for this NFC activation event
This is basically reading “NFC Forum” tags which broadcast static data in NDEF format which the CoreNFC API allows you to read, but there’s still no way to send raw APDUs which would be required to talk to a standard bank card.
A workaround would be to have the firmware on the Monzo cards emulate an NDEF tag with the card number inside so that it would work with iOS.
If you’re into programming and have an iOS dev environment (requires a Mac) here’s some sample code you can try for yourself.
The restrictions imposed by Apple… Has this changed since 2017? Is it still the same now for newer iPhones / latest iOS?
