Although didnât Anne say that she had something better? From an initial scan, this looks like bills pots but without taking from the main account if youâre short (which I think is probably not as good, but other people will prefer).
I just edited my post after actually redownloading the Starling app. It was the use of the term âsubscriptionsâ in the blog post as @Revels alluded too after you.
May just move all my stuff over to Starling now this is available, may hold off a few weeks though as Iâll need to be in the mood to manually move everything.
Unfortunately for me I still detest the design of the Starling home tab enough despite dark mode to make it a viable move for me as well as now being an avid user of VCâs on Plus but I can see this how this can be the nail in the coffin for :mondo: for those on the fence.
Feels a bit dramatic. This is Starling coming towards feature parity - thatâs excellent, but doesnât do anything that the free Monzo account doesnât so Iâd have thought it wouldnât have any demonstrable, large scale impact on movement been Monzo and Starling.
As ever, the competition is with the high street banks, so might accelerate movement from them.
Maybe, Maybe not, i think it depends on your view point and what you want from your bank.
Iâm a Monzo customer, for me, Monzo does more things I use regularly that Starling doesnât do then then the other way round. A massive one of those things until today which has has a massively transformed the way I manage my money is Bills Pots. And unfortunately for Monzo, theyâve copy and pasted one of their best features.
Now whilst I remain a Monzo customer, I know a lot of people that hung on to Monzo because of Bills Pots but wanted Starling because of really key banking features such as PO Cash Deposits and Cheque Imaging etc. for those people itâs now a no brainer.
We can argue about whether we think theyâre key features or not until were blue in the face but for a lot of people they are and like me a lot of people just want one app for their finances. thatâs partly why I pay for Plus. For now Iâll keep using Starling for cash and cheques because it is a damn site easier but it does stop things from being all in one place, and ultimately this drives people to keep another account open which is gaining more and more feature parity.
Something to do with the fact unike SOâs and DDâs thereâs notice that theyâre going to be taken, nor is there any markers in the transaction data to show itâs recurring or recurring timeframe, itâs just a normal payment
Some subscriptions can be paid by direct debit, so theyâd be included. Subscriptions where you have to pay through a debit or credit card wouldnât.

But then you have a list of names to maintain in the same way logos/names are managed now, and we see what happens when retailers change the content of the transaction and logos/names go awry, so that is a recipe for disaster the more you add to it.
Objectively speaking, and of course I am biased to a certain degree, but I do think itâs disappointing that the Starling implementation will decline a payment if the Space doesnât have enough balance. Especially since bills can be variable. I like to put the exact amount I require for bills in a Bill Pot, and know that if the amount turns out to be slightly more, the main balance will cover the difference.
This seems like it could potentially cause a situation where you get a declined payment just because your Space ended up short by a few quid, which would be a poor customer experience.

I wonder if thatâs a deliberate decision as it forces you to keep more money in Spaces âjust in caseâ?
