Starling Bank Chat (Part 2)

“Buy local”

Yep, just pop into town and give the locals your money.

I always prefer to spend my money with local, artisan data centres

I went to a few craft beer festivals here, does that count?

Have been trying to use starling a bit more to give it a chance and processed a few returns to it there.

Really annoys me that they take longer than they would to monzo :joy: especially sky bet withdrawals and refunds which come through the next day on monzo are taking 3/4 days with starling (not including the bank holidays)

I suppose its the little things you dont realise that monzo are so good at that others arent

You would expect the issue to be at the sender end, not the receiving bank.

Neither bank can process it until it is received :man_shrugging:

Bear in mind it’s the Xmas period, so some days aren’t working days. I’ve never had a problem withdrawing to Starling, no delays.

Yeah i have… hence the line.

If it comes in tomorrow that will be 4 working days.
Sky bet specifically takes one working day with monzo (as long as its before 6pm prev day)

Tomorrow is a Bank Holiday remember

Ahh yes boxing day substitute… so itll be 4 days on tues then.

There’s definitely a sense of satisfaction there and she enjoys the limelight. Fact is, though, Starling has evolved well and made sound decisions along the way, seemingly focused unerringly on the future.

There’s always the Monzo v Starling thing, and the accounts have taken very different paths. Early on, Monzo was a shinier-looking product with fun ideas but it’s lost traction.

Starling has never set the pulse racing, but has quietly become a solid, if unexciting, banking product. A more grown-up bank, perhaps?

Starling has started to grow on me recently, and I am yet to use it as a proper bank account.

Before Christmas I got a cheque and it was easier to deposit it in Starling, than Monzo. Over Christmas I received Christmas money in cash from my mum (she is the kind who withdraws it all on pay day) which I needed to deposit and it was easier, and cheaper, to deposit it with Starling.

I feel I just have banking apathy and can’t be bothered to transfer things over to give it a proper try and I don’t like the pie chart when you open it up. However, it has made me pause for thought about giving them a good go.

This is where I’m at really.

If I used cash for frequently or cheques, I’d probably be more inclined to try. Lack of bill pots means I wouldn’t transfer completely yet.

Pay from Pots is the feature keeping me tbh

Just downloaded my monthly statement as I always do and noticed there’s the option to download a certified copy which just puts a Starling seal as such at the top of the statement.

Don’t recall seeing that option when I downloaded November’s last month, unless I just breezed through the option and haven’t spotted it all this time 🤷

True copy as opposed to a fake copy

I always find it funny when businesses wanted “stamped” versions.

Bunq have done that for a long time, but theirs look a little more like a rubber stamp has been used, I guess it was a design decision to make it look more authentic like it was done in a branch.

I generated one myself, good idea but it says it’s verifiable but has no mechanism for verification detailed on the statement for someone to use to actually check it.

Plus only the first page is stamped which isn’t really how a true copy of a multiple page document should be.

At a guess, the verifiable part is probably the number written into the stamp, which forms part of the circular border around the logo.

If a concerned organisation contacted Starling seeking to verify a true copy statement, presumably it would be possible to match this number to their records and uniquely verify the copy, thereby confirming it’s authenticity.

Has anyone managed to connect their Starling account to Coinbase? They seem to have banned adding any crypto-related accounts as payees, which is surprising considering they publicly stated they have no problems with cryptocurrency transactions in general.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Support couldn’t be of any help and gave me useless answers. I’ve escalated this to a formal complaint but don’t expect much; do you think they are allowed to do something like this and can I escalate it further and try to get this fixed once and for all?

What currency were you paying in?
