“Starting salaries in operations are £24,500.”

That’s not bad for a starting salary. :eyes:

How does it compare to Monzo in Cardiff?

I’ve never been to the offices, even though job adverts stated you’d get chance to visit.

Stating salary isn’t as good as Starling based on the above.

I was having a look at Starling website and just kinda thought how rubbish it was. The homepage is just a load of random information with very little organisation that makes sense.

That this for example.

The heading is a “new type of bank”, but what is new there? FSCS isn’t. 100% digital signup isn’t. No monthly fees isn’t for personal (no idea for business). Don’t have a clue about Starling bank support, but I’ve heard plenty of people go against the idea of it being any time and 24/7.

So that section is just a load of things that most banks offer now, with the other thing not really being true.

Starling is a good proposition, but I just think the website is a bit rubbish.

A new type of bank showing customers what they likely find most important:

No fees.
FSCS protection.
24/7 customer service.
100% digital.

Isn’t that what a lot really want to see?

The rest is then focused elsewhere. Makes sense to me tbh.

Starling doesn’t do the nonsense stuff like the majority, they want the grown up bank feel.

Edit:

I feel this may change the look once they launch credit related products such as Credit card, loan, and maybe even mortgages (think their mortgage book is mostly SME for now).

Edit 2:

They also don’t want the anyone and everyone banking approach, so those looking for a new bank that don’t want fancy gags and colour shizzle can review Starling, see the key points and make that decision for themselves.

It doesn’t feel grown up and to me, it feels like a mess

Here’s the homepage

They show you some benefits.
Show some ratings.
Then say it is a new type of bank (but not how it is new), and then essentially the same benefits yet again.
And then some more ratings are randomly here (the service quality surveys).
And now a random link to switch to starling
And now some more benefits, some of which have already been mentioned twice so far.
And then a random link to some budget planner thing.
And then even more benefits, again some of which have already been mentioned.
And then a random info on being a sustainable bank
And now the products
And now an apply link

I just feel like the information is badly organised. Once you get down to it, there isn’t that much there, but the layout and repeated information makes it seem a lot more, but in a way that is cluttered.

What is bad about other banks websites?

See when I scroll the website from my phone it looks perfect.

Then just goes on to account types in more detail.

Tells me everything I’d really need to know. Guess it’s just preference.

Monzo focuses on look at what your account can do and offer, vs the “we are a new bank, here’s what you need to know” approach.

Monzo does have a lot more happening with their account though, which gives Starling less to promote at the moment.

I prefer how Monzo has presented their website as it just feels more straightforward, however, I really hate their new design. All the different colours are just too much for me (and I know there isn’t even that many. Just personal preference).

I just think Starling could tidy up the website a bit to remove all of the repeating information and explain why it is a new way to bank. Most people would expect to be told how it is new under a heading saying that it is new.

It’s like saying “here’s an iPhone with tonnes of brand new features” but then just listing features that every phone has. It just doesn’t flow right.

I agree, looks like a step backwards not forwards.

They do so this every year :eyes:

They do repeat FSCS a few times - I can be on board here (maybe not x4 in the first half the page) as people really look for this.

Revolut doesn’t get as much interest due to lack of FSCS so it’ll be great to see what happens when they do.

They also have a surprisingly nice website though investments etc could be placed below the travel section.

I do agree with you overall that Starling’s branding feels more grown up. The colours are obviously a lot calmer and the language they use is less “trendy” however, I feel like their cards don’t reflect the rest of their brand at all. Bright colours and a massive logo doesn’t really match with everything else.

Their purple cards were very nice, I was an early adopter initially so I’ll see if I can find my old one.

Their app needs some love, I want a landing page of account lists, open banking to add other accounts in, and get shot of pulse it’s really not useful, I’d rather just open on Spending if I had a choice.

Considering Santander already has other accounts in the app, then Starling have really missed the mark there (Santander doesn’t have a lot of features so to be worse than them at something is pretty bad haha).

Yeah the shame :joy:

Loading Santander is also a no, it’s probably the longest loading app next to tsb.

My wife’s first question whenever I mention a new neobank or a new savings account is “is it FSCS protected?”. People really do look for this indeed. I myself, being know for jumping to try every new thing under the sun, still look for the FSCS logo first before bothering to look any further.

See for me personally I don’t look for it first off, like Revolut, I really like it, they’re still regulated by the FCA, my money just isn’t insured in the spending account.

Their vaults (pots) are FSCS protected though.

Maybe I I’ve not been stung for not being FSCS protected, I was only 19 and stupid when 2008 came around so I wouldn’t have acknowledged the impact.

Is it a risk vs reward thing, or perhaps something like pensions, some people don’t think about them till they realise they’re closer to retirement than they are to the start of their career and scramble to find a pension plan

I just know that, even though I have not ever needed the FSCS protection, it only has to happen once to get me in financial trouble, and I don’t want to let it happen even that once.

Just had a look at the Starling website on my desktop machine. Looks fine to me.
