One more tip would be to ditch pay TV subscriptions.
There’s a surprisingly decent amount of free content available on Freeview & Freesat. Spend money on a Freeview+ or Freesat+ recorder, you can then record a range of different shows and movies including on-demand content. If there’s the occasional series you like which is on pay TV then just buy the boxset.
Don’t bother upgrading your TV to a smart TV either, spend £30-£60 on a Roku or Amazon Fire Stick. These will give you access to the full range of iplayer style services from BBC/ITV/Channel 4/Channel 5, plus Amazon, Netflix and more.
