Security Weakness

Correct. Then I have to reset security.

Ok, so the issue is that as the FP reader for Monzo is ā€œskitishā€ he doesnt want to add fingerprint option and doesnt have an option to selec any other option?

So is the issue you have to keep re-enabling it or that you want aonther option as the FP reader is ā€œskitishā€ with Monzo?

Actually Aaron, I’m not assuming anything. I’m reporting what occurs. Software systems are complex and faults are not always in the obvious places. I have often been told something can’t happen, and then lo and behold we find that actually it does.

I would like the reader to work better with monzo like it does with my other apps and I would like an alternative, like a pin so that I don’t have to go through a complex rigmarole every time it fails. I also believe that when I set security it should stay that way until I change it.

Any other bank’s login procedure:

First Time:
-Something I Know- my online banking login details
-Something I Have- my debit card and one of the stupid pin pads.
Thereafter:
-Something I Have - my authenticated device
-Something I Am- Biometrics

Monzo’s login procedure:

First time:
-Something I Have - my email address with a magic link
-Something I Know - my card’s PIN
Thereafter:
-Something I Have - my authenticated device
-Optionally Something I Am - Biometrics

Monzo’s process here is not fundamentally less secure than other banks, and is arguably more secure if you have 2FA on your email address (and you should).

So that’s 38 posts in this thread, Martin, and as far as I can recall, you started the thread with a last name !! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

@Muganga

I’ve a horrible feeling my servicing guy will say ā€œit works fine with all these standard testsā€ (which it will) ā€œIf it’s not working with monzo that’s their problem. Ā£50 please.ā€

Yup. I’m not shy, but noticed that most others stay a little more anonymous.

The security will never stay once logged out regardless of App.

I do not use Android so do you have an option with the Andriod settings to disable biometrics within specific apps?

I just diabled FaceId with iOS settings, went in to Monzo security settings and gave me an option to use TouchID but on the iPhone XR doesnt have that facilty and no other option except to use FaceID.

There should be an option for the user to choose the login security process either BioMetrics, Pin Code or none

I know you can change it in Monzo settings, but was wondering if there is an option within the Android settings to do it prior to logining into Monzo to see if it gives another option as it did with me on iOS

No I’m pretty sure hardware is OK. Hardware doesn’t choose to work with one app but not with another. It’s something in the software (OS or monzo).

Huawei P10. Never damaged.

I’ll have a look.

Actually it can, your phone is in effect a mini computer and the way each application is written can change how it works and how it functions on the phone. This is why some applications drain the battery more or use more memory etc.

In the case of the phone, you have the core system which is android and interfaces written by the phone manufacturer to interface to the hardware. Applications sit above this layer and call out to Android which then calls to the hardware.

Depends on your email provider

Exactly my point. It may be that the options set by monzo via the API cause a path to be taken which has this behaviour.
FYI. I’ve been developing software since the Leo 2

So I’m not a compete novice.

Gmail tells your if your recipient has encryption enabled.

I have had a quick search and it looks like it is disabled for all or none?
