Security Weakness

I didn’t ask for it to be offline.

It depends on how the biometric challenge is being used, for many banks it effectively replaces the password or pin which is why it offers the fall back option.

Monzo don’t use it in that way, they just use it to provide a barrier to opening the app.

For whatever reason they have chosen not to provide the fall back option or they can’t because of the way it’s being used.

I think this is a storm in teacup. If you’ve allowed your phone to be comprised you’ll have other issues and they still cannot make payments.

Monzo has a fallback. That you don’t like the particular form it takes it doesn’t make it any less true.

So 8 out ten goes it doesn’t pick up your thumb and logs you out. That’s more than just a rare blip. The fact that it’s happened on other apps even 5% may indicate an issue with the fingerprint reader itself.

Simples option would have been for Op to say

Once logged in after magic link and pin number entered app takes them direct to secutiy settings to enable “user” specific security option, Bio metric, pin code or none etc.

But again as above regardless it is user responsibility

How am I being unfair and unsympathetic?

I’m saying that he is still arguing about how Monzo should be doing it which is just going round and round in circles. He is not asking for suggestions like he claims he is.

If you log out of most apps it will reset everything because in theory someone else could log in. The association of the settings is normally related to the login credentials, so if you log out, that link is broken.

I never mentioned the issue  I’m trying to move the discussion on to stop it being so circular

But the issue is not of Monzo’s making, there clearly is an issue with the phones fingerprint reader.

Sorry, precision needed.
The percentages I quoted are per presentation. You get several chances. I have only once failed to open the other bank app and then I could enter my PIN so no problem.
With Monzo it means that around 30 to 50% of the time multiple presentations fail so that I can’t get in. If I’m VERY careful I can get it up to about 75%.
I don’t think there is any problem with my reader.

It’s not semantics, it’s a pivotal part of the way a software application works. It’s just the distinction isn’t always that obvious.

Ah, of course, it must be the hardware. Funny it works fine with another bank!

Clearly there is as most finger print readers work first or second time and rarely get to a timeout / fall back scenario unless you’ve used the wrong finger.

If your belief is that the app is at fault for the missed fingerprint reads, rather than the phone, have you uninstalled and reinstalled it, to see if that corrects the issue?

I did search this topic to see if you’d said as much but couldn’t find any trace.

Now would be a good point for the Community Caretaker to step in… @AlanDoe

You’re assuming the bank has any say or control over the fingerprint software. It doesn’t.

Yes I have. It didn’t fix it.

But it gives you the option to log out and back in and after too many failed attempts it auto logs you out.

please make it stop

I uninstalled and reinstalled and it didn’t fix the problem. My fp reader works fine with another bank, but it’s very skittish with monzo.
