Take it from me don’t do it lol
I don’t suppose anyone has tried to change an individual Child and Co account to a join one recently have they? Seems like no new C&C or Drummonds accounts can be opened, but obviously this is an adding a new account holder to an existing account. Only have one C&C account, so slightly reluctant to just give it a go. So wondered if anyone had already.
Found my first downside to RBS this morning.
Woke up to find I was in an overdraft and panicked a little… only to discover it was a round-up that has pushed me into the red.
Not sure why the system has even allowed that to happen.
That seems abit naughty
Judging by their website it shouldn’t actually have happened so I’ll be interested to know what happened on this occasion…
Trust it to happen to me ![]()
Roundups shouldn’t do that. In my case when there isn’t enough funds for the round up it just doesn’t do it. But then again. I don’t have an overdraft.
I’m the same - no overdraft here either so it put me into an unarranged O/D
That’s definitely something to raise to them. The same principle applies for all the banks I use when it comes to roundups. If the funds aren’t available to cover the roundup it doesn’t do it.
If the bank puts you in an unarranged overdraft it’s their problem not yours so give them a call
Haven’t seen it in action yet but RBS will now give you transaction insights on the home feed about different transactions to help with budgeting.
You can also permanently turn on ‘Running balance’.
Are you still using RBS as your main account?
I sure am! 5 months and counting now ![]()
Is there any way of getting the Drumonds card as of today? I have the Child&Co one.
My understanding it is now impossible, the old form is no longer accessible and there is no option to pick a sort code via the new form / app.
Over on the another forum, a member said that when they tried to open a new account for an existing Drummonds account holder, they were given a new RBS sort code. After an investigation by the Premier team, there was no way to get Drummonds sort code assigned to any new account.
In theory, I believe this means that even if you try to open a new Child & Co account based on that being your existing home sort code, it’s not possible. You’ll just get a generic sort code applied.
One annoying thing I’ve noticed about the insights and budgeting is transactions that are made before the cut off don’t count until it clears - once it clears if it’s after the payment cycle it then counts towards the following month and no way to change it.
Hello, does anyone know what would happen if I tried to change my RBS Child & Co. account from Select to a student account?
I guess they would aim to keep the sort code the same but I don’t want to risk losing the card!
Hopefully someone will have done this and confirm, but until they do, my speculative thoughts. It looks like a product switch (the same as select to reward), which people have said does not have any impact.
However, if in reality they need to generate a new account in the background for student accounts, then apparently they can’t do this for Child and Co accounts. At this point you’d hope RBS would let you know they would need to change the account details before proceeding.
I guess it depends on what your preferred outcome is. If keeping a C&C account is a priority, the safest option might be to open a new account (which would not be C&C student account, just an RBS one, but at lest your existing C&C select account should remain untouched). If you want to only have one account, or want to specifically have your student account is a C&C one, you’ve got no option but to risk it.
While not a game changer, it’s another helpful feature, RBS/Natwest app really is pretty strong for a legacy bank. Temped to move over to them as my main account, to give it a try.
I’ve been using them as my “main” account (well I get paid into it and use the credit card) and they are easily the best high street banks out there, with the best app as well.
