Great, I new there was a reason to hold out from paying the delivery fee (apart from being very stingy)

I think they can, any bank could charge, most just don’t.

Oh alright then. Also it would drive away a fair few customers to be hit with a paywall to use a Physical card.

So I hope they remove it! :folded_hands:

Don’t see why they wouldn’t be allowed to charge the delivery fee post becoming a bank, if it’s in their terms they’re within their rights to charge it surely.

I remember back in the early days they used to do free cards (inc shipping) but I think they scrapped it around 2020 when they cut their marketing budget due to COVID at which point they started charging shipping. They state the first card itself is free but shipping has to be bourn by the user.

I guess upgrading is a way around it as they give free shipping I believe on paid plans

Was it sent 1st class or second class? That price is rather steep if it is really a postage fee as they claim for something untracked.:laughing:.

Most likely Royal mail second class costing no more than ÂŁ1.80 large letter up to 250g, being a business they may have far better rates due to volume pricing discounts

Even the standard card is nicer than most banks’ though.

Not excusing it, but most likely in reality whilst they say the card is “free” (that word we all love :joy:) in reality they’re most likely covering more than just an envelope and a stamp (Card production costs, fulfillment and logistics, postage and overheads/risk).

As I mentioned before it also helps nudge some people towards a paid plan to get the express shipping for free

Even though you’re paying £7.99 per month for premium upwards with premium anyway you get 2 cards shipped express for free with that depending on your plan as well as one subsequent card every year again shipped express for free.

Not sure about Metal/Ultra, you’d need to check out their terms

Also probably to discourage card collectors from opening accounts they are never going to use

I do prefer Monzo’s way NGL

Revolut do the first point also

I am just waiting for enough cashback to redeem from TCB then order the card to add to my collection.
If they were straight forward and said it is a card fee, I would have paid.

What do they use to determine they’re the main bank? Direct debits? Salary payments are hit and miss as I recently found out many employers use FP

At least one active direct debit and at least ÂŁ500 paid in within a rolling 35-day period.

Easy to beat. Hope they do some switch bribes and I join.

I was talking about Monzo, not sure if Revolut are doing the same we’ll see I guess as/once everyone is switched over to the new entity. Hopefully there will be some sweet CASS offers too from Revolut with the news.

I do suspect likely they won’t as they’ve always presented themselves as a secondary account for people they never marketed themselves as a main account I believe it’s the same in Europe I guess they’re happy enough being people’s secondary spending abroad card and taking whatever fees they get there because they’re at such scale it still results in billions in profits where Monzo aim themselves as a high street alternative

Talking about them too. I don’t want to be excluded as an existing customer.

These ones will stick to their referrals, probably making the gain two way.
I can’t even convince anyone to join Revolut as they see no way they are gaining.

Not sure TBH, for Basic Bank Account (if you qualify) they definitely don’t and there’s no ATM limits inside Europe either.

I’m fairly sure that at the point they became a bank (and after Ulster and KBC left and folk were looking for new accounts), they did run a promotion including a free first card for new customers. Whether that’s still there now, not sure. Also remembering Irish banks charge for everything else, so a card delivery fee and free banking vs a legacy bank maintenance fee every month is still good value

The market is different in :united_kingdom: though, in Ireland Revolut have already saturated users - UK there will be much more competition. I’d be really surprised if they don’t do something to try and start harvesting full current account customers when that point comes

I’ve started seeing more and more revolut accounts at work for those who both work and claim, more than Monzo and starling tbh.

I only see a very small amount of accounts so can’t really gauge, but with it being more common, and Revolut saying they have 13m customers in the UK, I don’t think it’ll be too difficult to sway more now they have FSCS.

No, indeed.

Also I guess any promotions for free cards will come down to the numbers of:

  • How many customers already have Revolut, and may be using it as a secondary account
  • Whether or not they already ordered a physical card

If they do have a large number of customers holding physical cards, the focus might be on convincing them to make it their salary account. Actually Revolut ran exactly that campaign here too, they already had the customers but wanted to focus them on going all in
