I would suggest you try a different tyre. The tyre you have sounds like it’s designed for tubeless - hence the really tight fit.
Other tyres that are not tubeless compatable will probably be a lot loser and easier to fit if you plan on taking off and putting back on a lot with innertubes.
Blimey I thought my tyres were bad! Yes you have to do the whole push the tyre into the rim, work the slack round and then use the tool. Also don’t try to pull all of the last unfitted part of the tyre on in one go. Pull over small bits at a time. Eventually the last part pops over. That’s how it worked for me anyway!
Take the advice above and go tubeless, you should only need to remove them then when the tyre is no more use rather that every time a puncture happens on the inner tube
So the liquid you insert will fill any puncture holes ?
I’ll speak to me mechanic about it in future if when I get my next puncture I can’t do it myself
Yep! Another slightly cheaper alternative in the short term would be to buy innertubes with Slime in them or add your own ‘slime’ through the valve, not as good as tubeless but may save you a few times!
With tubeless On my mountain bikeI’ve not had a puncture in over three years and it’s certainly had a thrashing off road - once every 6 months I top up the fluid in the tyre.
Ok sounds like something I’d definitely consider as I love going off road on gravel and occasionally mud ( which is where I got my first puncture from a thorn )
I’d only rode the bike on the road and path for the first 3 months, then 4 days into going off road I got a puncture
I have used slime before but was advised against it on a hybrid / road bike as the tyre pressure is so high
When/if I get another puncture I’ll strongly consider going tubeless
Only just got these continental contact travels which are advertised as being very puncture resistant. They’re so fast on road and very good off road too
Does the rim tape play any role in tubeless tyres ?
Yes - The rim tape is used to cover the holes where the spokes join the wheel to stop air leaking out. I tend to use Gorilla tape rather than proper rim tape. It will also ensure that the tyre is pushed out onto the rim if it’s a lose fit tyre!
may have damaged some of my rim tape as it was a pain getting the continentals on. Might be fine though. Luckily I know a friendly local mechanic who would help me
If I need some new rim tape is it easy to remove and fit the new one ?
So I’m less likely to get a flatty with tubeless ?
